Why should you sleep on your left side?

Hi,

I have read in pregancy magazines and books that you should try to sleep on your left side after the first trimester.

I am 27 weeks and still trying to get used to lying on my left side but generally feel more comfortable on my right side (I am hoping that this is still preferable to my back or my front). None of the books or magazines I've read actually tell me why the left side is better than the right so was wondering what the logic behind this was - can anyone enlighten me - a bit lazy to do a google search!

It's better for the blood flow to the placenta.

Thanks VS. I'll keep trying then. At last scan blood flow sounded fine so hopefully no damage done.

I don't think it causes damage, just is good if you can do it.

Good explanation here.
