Learning to drive whilst pregnant?

I am currently pregnant, very early only 4 weeks. I also have a 1 year old, I have decided I finally need to learn to drive to make my life easier. I will only be doing automatic and hoping to pass relatively fast. Would it be ok to learn whilst pregnant?

Absolutely fine to.

I did. Did lessons and took my test while pregnant with my 3rd.

Amazing to hear others have too! I guess my biggest worry is if I can pass before baby is due then I’d be a fresh driver with a new born it’s scary

Yes I did. Passes my test at 7 months.

Just be aware that some instructors get some bit grumpy when a lady with a bump is coming for a test. They also don't like it when you cry with hormones.

The second time a different person was much kinder 😅

Also not that you asked but I'd highly recommend learning manual, it's not as tricky as you'd think and saves money on rentals and future cars or borrowing cars 😉

I passed at 35 weeks, it was fine, driving with a baby was also fine!

Well done for deciding to learn. My sil did the same, she was pregnant with her second and had moved from town to a rural area and really needed to drive. She was nervous but flew through it and absolutely loves driving now. But I'd also recommend learning and doing the test in a manual car if at all possible, it isn't difficult and once you get the hang of it you'll have that skill forever. Best of luck.

I took my test and passed when I was 6 months pregnant. The examiner was a bit concerned and asked if I should be driving but he passed me.

Should you be driving at 6 months pregnant?
What did he think we do, go into confinement and not emerge again until the unsightliness of the bump is gone? 🤣

Good on you for learning OP, it’ll give you loads more freedom for taking the kids out and about etc.

I learned to drive with the kids in the car nagging at me and passing constant comment on my skills.

i was a new driver with a constant chorus of - mummy I need a wee! She’s got my snack! My hand’s stuck in the window! Mummy I want to sit in the front with you (unbuckles their car seat and pops their head over your shoulder on the motorway) Mummy he’s been sick again. Mum, my friend said her dad hits her. Mum, what’s a terrorist? Mummy, can hamsters swim? Mum, tell me about Pythagoras’ theorem. Can we go home now? Is that car going to crash into us? Mummy I had a dream that you crashed and we all died. Mum, I think the speed limit is actually 30. Mummy, I think I did a poo but I thought it was a fart. Mummy, what happens if you shake a milkshake? (Milkshake all over the car)

and so on and on and on. Add in lots of screaming

The only question I was asked was whether I felt I could do an emergency stop safely. (I said that I was confident to do so, examiner chose not to do it).
(I actually failed that time. Went back to lessons when DD1 was a few months old. Didn't know it at the time... but DD2 came along for the ride on the test I did pass as an extremely tiny one 15 months after that first test)

I've been learning whilst pregnant. Currently 30 weeks. My test is booked for 39 weeks, I gather I'll just fake going into labour if it's going badly!

My mother did when pregnant with me (1962)

Nearly murdered my dad who was teaching her

Get a vintage car with no power steering and a crash box, after that anything else is dead easy

I passed my driving test 26 weeks pregnant it will definitely be fine to drive ! I had been taking lessons since I had found out I was pregnant quite early on,even failed my first test at 22 weeks. Although I did cancel a few lessons due to good old morning sickness lol by the time baby was born I had only been driving 3 months and tbh I had no issues with being nervous driving with a newborn it was actually a relief to know I could drive and take my son to any appointments etc without relying on others or taxis etc🙂my mindset was now or never and being pregnant gave me the push I needed to pass my test🥰

BlondiePortz · 04/05/2025 04:15

Pregnant women drive so why on earth would this be a problem?

Queenelsarules · 04/05/2025 09:31

I passed my test a week before my daughter was born! The examiner did tell me that I shouldn't really be driving when I was so heavily pregnant 🙃
