Hi guys - I’m hoping for some positive outcomes or just outcomes in general. Had my 20 week scan today and all good is with our baby however her head is measuring on the 8th percentile (the sonographer said anything under the 10th percentile is a cause for concern) obviously the 8th isn’t far off 10th but I’m still worried. We have to go back in 2 weeks for a growth scan but I’m hoping someone can shine some light on their own similar experiences please? Has anyone had a growth scan and the babies head hasn’t caught up? What happened then? I have so many questions and I feel so anxious, I’m trying to remain calm but it’s easier said than done.

any comments are much appreciated - thank you in advance x

Hi,

I had this with my daughter. Her head circumference was also under 10th centile and stayed there. All her measurements were on < 10 centile. We had 20 week scan, went back at 22 weeks and were referred to fetal medicine.

They said she’s a small baby with a very small head but looked physically ok. I had bloods for CMV to see if I’d had an infection early in pregnancy and went back after 4 weeks. That showed she’d continued her growth velocity and was developing normally.

We went back to our local hospital for fortnightly growth scans. At 38 weeks I ended up triage with some heart rate issues and had an emergency section.

She is now a perfectly healthy happy 2 year old. But is small and has a very small head so fetal medicine were spot on.She’s currently sitting on my knee eating cottage pie.

I remember how very stressful it was. Easy to say don’t google but you will. Big hug x

My dd had a small head, it was one of a few things that the scan showed and we had a follow up more detailed scan (they were more basic then and we were one of the first in the city to use the new style ultrasound then experimental) and saw various experts. We went ahead and she was perfectly healthy, just petite and had a small head - still has as an adult but not so as it looks weird or anything, but they had to special order her hat (military) as the smallest stock size didn’t fit her!
