Severe indigestion?

I’m 24 weeks pregnant and it’s my first pregnancy. Was really unwell today and wondered if anyone else has had similar.

Started with a couple of waves of indigestion but by this evening I was in serious pain. Chest hurt, cramping between ribs and top of my belly button, sweating but not hot, shaking, nausea, felt faint. Struggled to breathe or talk due to the pain.

We called 111 but they never got back to us and I’m feeling much better now. Will obviously call them back if it gets bad again and going to raise it with my midwife next week.

But wondered if anyone else has had this? Is it common, should I be worried or am I just overreacting to indigestion?!

111 is not going to help with pregnancy heartburn. Personally I preferred Rennies, though gaviscon helps some people

I took 6 Rennies but they didn’t do anything, and then paracetamol. Have ordered Gaviscon in case that works better in case it happens again.

Go to the GP and get some heartburn meds. They have helped me

Did the pain travel to your back?
I had the same symptoms at around the same point in my first pregnancy and was diagnosed with gallstones. So worth getting it checked out.

Thank you, I’ll ask about that!

It was in the top of my back / shoulders, how about yours? Thank you for the suggestion

I've not had indigestion yet (I'm about 10 days behind you, pregnancy wise!) but this does sound like something more than indigestion to me. Struggling to breathe from the pain sounds a bit more serious, and could well be unrelated to pregnancy. I suspect baby's absolutely fine, but purely for your own health I'd probably see a GP to be on the safe side x

Thank you and congratulations on your pregnancy :) I’ve now spoken to the midwife and they’ve said if it happens again to go to A&E so they can assess it when it’s happening. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again though!

Take omeprazole rathole than gaviscon.
But if you are struggling to talk and don’t get immediate attention from 111, a&e would be a good idea.

Thank you, I’ve got some Gaviscon just to have another option, and have contacted the GP this morning so hopefully they can prescribe something. Pharmacist wasn’t able to help without me speaking to the GP unfortunately.

You can buy omeprazole over the counter, it’s on the shelf in my closest supermarket

Yes, it sounds similar to what I had, and I thought it was far too severe to be indigestion.

I haven't had the gallstones removed ever, I just watch my diet. My DD is now 19, and I never had any problems when pregnant with DS.

I was told that sometimes they can be diagnosed in pregnancy because everything is more "constricted".

I would definitely seek advice and say how severe it was. Good luck.
