Did you vape while pregnant?

I’m almost 25 weeks pregnant with my first baby,
I was a HEAVY vaper but give it up as soon as I found out. It was hard but I did it and am so proud of myself as I would basically have my vape in my hand all day!

I have a lot of friends and acquaintances who I’ve spoken to who vaped throughout their pregnancies. It has really surprised me at the amount of people who vaped while pregnant and whose baby’s are absolutely fine.

Dont get me wrong, giving up has been hard and there is nothing more that I would love right now than to go and buy myself a vape! But I could never do it now, especially after going this long without it.

I was just wondering if anybody here vaped while pregnant, know people who did, etc. I’m just really intrigued about it after the amount of people who have / do and curious if it’s more common than I thought.

Absolutely no judgement at all, I know how hard it is to give it up. I’m just curiosa 😊

Honestly it's just not worth the risk - not enough is known about it to possibly make it worthwhile. Most babies would probably be ok, but would you ever forgive yourself if yours was the one who wasn't?

Should add to this - in the wider range of society a lot of women do all sorts that you "shouldn't" and their babies are fine. But it's very much rolling the dice.

I’m in my 50s and so far I’m healthy despite my mother smoking heavily while pregnant and until she died in her 50s. There will always be people who appear to defy the rules…. We don’t know the long term impact of vaping. Well done on giving up… and please for both you and baby, keep going. Smoking caught up with my mum eventually. She missed out on her 8 grandchildren. And much else.

There's a huge amount of research going on about vaping in pregnancy at the moment. They're looking well beyond the effects at newborn level, and more into later childhood. So while they all seem fine right now, many will see problems down the line.
Congratulations for quitting it's the hardest thing ever so I hope you're really proud of yourself and what you've done for your baby.

Congratulations for quitting! Lots of women do things they shouldn't and will tell you they're fine but really, the statistics are not from thin air.

On another mum group, someone posted earlier today that they were pissed off and embarrassed because their GP told them off for giving their 7 month old watered down Gatorade. Apparently they were refusing the bottle of formula that morning so decided Gatorade will do the trick.

People do daft things. Becoming a parent doesn't change people fundamentally.

Just because you know people whose babies are fine doesn't mean that stopping isn't worthwhile. It's about risk. The risk is unknown but it's highly likely that it's better to not vape, and I'm sure some research will be along in the next few years to confirm that. The fewer strange foreign substances you have in your body during pregnancy, the better.

My mum smoked throughout her pregnancies and my siblings and I are mostly OK. It doesn't mean she should have.

It's great that you gave it up. 🙌

I do. Because I used to be a heavy smoker which I quit the day I got two lines. Midwives recommended vaping instead.

Thanks everyone. I am proud of myself as giving up is hard but I’m so glad that I did it, it’s not a risk that I want to even take but it’s surprising how many people do it x

@ChickenBananaswell done for giving up smoking, that is an amazing achievement you should be so proud. I have a friend who vapes now instead of smoking as her midwife told her the same, I’ve heard a lot of people who have been told not to go cold turkey either as apparently that can cause more stress? Hope your pregnancy is going well xx

Well done! Please don't start again when baby is born. We don't know the long term effects of this new habit yet, and there is virtually no chance there will be none.
