Raw Pork Exposure?

21 weeks- My MIL was over making some tomato sauce. She had 1 thawed from frozen pork sausage which she cut in pieces. Anyways she didn’t wash her hands right away after cutting/touching the sausage. I tried to wash all the surfaces she touched and changed the utensils out. I put the dirty cutting board away. I did wash my hands multiple times but worried I accidentally touched my face/mouth at some point after touching a contaminated surfaces. Worried as I know pork can have toxoplasmosis. I know I am probably overthinking this but everything has been going so well this pregnancy and don’t want to mess it up.

You're very much overthinking this. Put it out of your mind and carry on.

Do you usually have anxiety? That’s too much overthinking.

The chances of pork having toxomplasmosis in the U.K. are small, in studies where they tested a load of pork samples they only found it in about 3%. It’s also generally a mild illness if you do get it, yes more concerning if pregnant but not often. So the likelihood that:

a) the pork was infected
b) you managed to pick up and transfer the germs to yourself despite cleaning as you went
c) you would get infected and respond badly to it

are teeny tiny.

You are going to find the next few months very long and difficult if you get this anxious about small things, so if anxiety is something you suffer from generally it may be a good idea to speak to your midwife/GP.

Thanks everyone! I’ve never really had anxiety before and since being pregnant it has been so much! This is my rainbow baby after 2 losses so I am just worried that im going to do something to mess it all up
