So my partner and I are not planning on having kids.

she had a strange four day bleed, one of which was very clotted, the others where very light, effectively wiped now a flow.

we have tested 17 days post our last sex, all negative on a Clearblue ultra (10 detection level not 25)

given this is 17 days past our last sex and 10 days post where her period described above ‘started’, can we take the test as conclusive, or could the four day ‘bleed’ have been implantation and we are just not showing up as yet as pregnant?

many thanks is advance

Implantation bleeding & a period can’t be mixed up really.

Implantation bleeding is very very light, and I’m talking just a few drops of blood when wiping, no pad/tampon needed there isn’t a “flow” and you wouldn’t have clots with implantation bleeding,

It’s not really the date you had sex which matters, it’s her ovulation date. Sperm can live inside a woman for up to 5 days, if she ovulated on any of those days then potentially the egg will have been fertilised but even if we said she ovulated on day 5, that would be 12 days ago and I’d expect a positive on the early tests by now if pregnant. I’d safely assume it‘s a no.

@Mrsttcno1 - thanks for your reply, I appreciate it.

im sorry for the extra detail here, but we are both 43 and although it was unprotected to start, we did use a condom to finish.

she mentioned today she had sore boobs but the test was still negative, I may have planted that idea in her mind by asking her yesterday and she would be about ready to ovulate now if that was a period as she is at day 10 of what is normally a 25 day cycle, so it could be that.

the blood on day 1, 3 and 4 was very light, but the blood had clots it on day 2 and was very dark, this was not like a normal period for her although her last two have been very heavy, it was dark and clotted on day 2.

ee have done 7 tests now and all negative, if it was implantation bleeding from 18th April, would we expect an early detection test to be positive on the first wee of the day 10 days later?

thanks again 🙏

All you can really do is test again every few days until another period shows up. I doubt anyone here can tell you anything more concrete!

And if she turns out to be pregnant then you do have options
