Personally I wouldn't because it then make that very expensive matress not breathable....
They don't tend to leak big at that age I found anyway
But if you want extra layers double up on matress covers instead of a plastic cover, or put a cloth nappy/folded big muslin in the area baby's bum will be

@LaTable I have read it's a good idea to use a mattress protector, wouldn't it be ok if it was a breathable one.

I mean yes, but the breathable and waterproof don't particularly go hand in hand. They will have small holes to make it breathable, and hence not as waterproof.
But again, I didnt really need them, only had one maybe two accidents at like 6 months old.
So don't have any recommendations sorry! At least I've bumped your post for you though haha

We used the Little Green Sheep ones. They claim to be breathable but are maybe not completely waterproof.

@LaTable Thank you for bumping. It's been a while since I've had to think of these things.

@wishIwasonholiday10 I've seen the little green sheep ones, it's confusing trying to make sure mattress protectors are waterproof.

It has been waterproof enough for our needs. DD spat up loads as a baby and the mattress was fine. We also have their cot sized one and it kept the mattress dry when DH forgot to put a nappy on DD for nap time (while attempting potty training) and she did a huge wee.

The clair de lune mattress is about £12 to replace, it’s probably easier to just do that

Rainbowsunshine81 · 28/04/2025 15:53

@wishIwasonholiday10 I've been looking at more today and I rang the lullaby trust and they said it's best if completely waterproof, not water resistant. I have bought the little green sheep moses basket mattress.

@jackiesgirl I've bought a new mattress for the Moses basket from the little green sheep company as the one we had before didn't seem very firm and had discoloration due to be stored for some time.
