Early scan or not?

Right - am just over 7 weeks pregnant and have had one missed miscarriage at over 11 weeks, prior to a healthy pregnancy.

MW has made contact with EPU and confirmed that if I were to turn up there, my mc plus the fact I have been experiencing braxton hick-type feelings, means that they would be extremely unlikely to turn me away.

Problem is, the EPU is a 300 mile trip (or around 6 hours), which I would have to make with my toddler. .

Do you think that the logistics of actually getting there and the scan will cancel out the reassurance??

Oh that does sound like a VERY long stressful trip.
How worried are you? Obviously you are worried, sorry. But is it a worry that will keep you awake at night and stress you out or will you be able to focus on the liklihood that things are all ok and keep positive most of the time?
If you can afford it then you always opt for an early viabilty scan at a private clinic nearer to you?

jesus god, where do you live? can't the EPU arrange for a sonographer working at a nearer hospital to have a look at you? both options are torture for you, it's not right.

I think that the scan would only give you reassurance for a short period of time, so I wouldn't go unless you have some bleeding or other similar concern.

(You may recall that my pregnancy history is almost the same as yours, if that has any bearing).

I think she's on a tiny island Aitch, so this probably is her nearest.

I had this dilemma myself, though my trip to the hospital wouldn't be quite so extreme!

I decided not to have the early scan as I felt it would, in some way, indulge my paranoia, plus might also give me false hope as I know so many people who had good early scans only to then mc. I decided to jsut try and remain positive instead, which has worked, especially now that I am nearly 12 weeks.

But saying that, I've had no cramps or bleeding in this pg. In two earlier (and successful pregnancies), I did have bleeding and had early scans for reassurance.

Really hope you get through this stressful time successfully, whatever you decide. I hate the first 12 weeks!

and there's not a visiting doc who can bring something helpful? gawd. i feel for you, teuch, that not knowing is hell. can you leave dd with someone, do you think?

Thanks, I know this is a balance of rational thought over irrational. Days are better...but the dark, dark hours of the night I just fret!!

Would it be possible for your gp to do bloods to check your horomone level going up?. My gp did this for me, as I didnt want an early scan, for different reasons

MW originally said that the HcG blood tests (which I had done last pg) were not really offered, and that a scan would be preferable, but I think I might ask her to reconsider for now.
