Positive test three days ago, I’m now bleeding, what do I do??

I had a positive test on 23/04, at 8dpo. I started this afternoon having some light cramping and brown spotting, which has now turned into bright red when I wipe but nothing on the pad. My GP is closed and I don’t know what to do at all, we’ve been trying for three years and I couldn’t believe my eyes when the test came up positive. I’ve been testing each morning and the tests have been getting darker. Is this a miscarriage??

Could it be implantation bleeding?

OurDreamLife · 26/04/2025 20:04

You could try calling your EPU but mine will only see you from a referral and not before 6 weeks.

Could be implantation or a watch and wait situation. Good luck!

mummytoonetryingfortwo · 26/04/2025 20:04

EPU are closed after 3pm on weekends so I’ll call tomorrow morning I suppose, it’s just heartbreaking, I really thought this was our time.

Don’t assume the worst but for an early miscarriage there’s not a lot they do really

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 26/04/2025 20:08

Don't panic. Cup of tea. Sit on the bed with your legs up and rest. I bled in two of my pregnancies. We lost the first bit when it happened again I felt like you did and it was fine. Sometimes bleeding happens. If you have any accompanying pain phone the EPU so they can rule out ectopic but for now just rest .

mummytoonetryingfortwo · 26/04/2025 20:14

I know there’s not a lot to be done if it is a loss, I kind of wish I’d not tested now because I’d just be taking this as the start of my period a few days early and not think anymore of it. 💔

I’m really sorry OP, as you’re not even late for a period I’d be surprised if EPU would see you or GP would refer you at this stage, I know at our local one you need to be above 6 weeks. It may be nothing, some bleeding can be normal, I’ve got my fingers crossed for you. X

I’m in bed, my husband has put our little girl to bed and is downstairs ordering a takeaway for us both, I just feel sad. I’d only taken a test because I had a really specific craving that I’d not had since I was pregnant with my daughter, so it triggered me to test. Things just feel heavy this evening

Don't test for a few days. Take time off work if you can. Try and rest. Stay positive. Unfortunately this is one of those wait and see situations but don't give up hope.

Chick981 · 26/04/2025 22:12

Sounds like a chemical, sorry OP. Not much you can do but wait it out.

nottheplan · 26/04/2025 22:16

Hoping that all will be ok for you 🙏 🤲

Rycbar · 26/04/2025 22:36

Unfortunately OP there isn’t really anything you can do. It could just be a bit of implantation bleeding or it could be that you’re suffering form a ‘chemical pregnancy’. If you’ve only just got your BFP then it’s unlikely a scan would show you anything so going to the EPU would be pointless. If the bleeding stops then take another test in a week or so, if it becomes like a period then it’s most probably the end of this one. I feel your pain, we’ve also been trying for a long time and we only have 1 miscarriage at 10 weeks to show for it. I’m so sorry if this ends the same way xx

mummytoonetryingfortwo · 26/04/2025 23:05

Thanks all. It seems to have stopped this evening so fingers crossed, I’m about to head to bed and hope that everything is fine!

Sending baby dust.
I think 50% of pregnancies experience some sort of bleeding, so don’t lose hope. As said above there is nothing you can do until you know you’re 6 weeks, so you’re past the ‘chemical pregnancy’ stage.
but some EPU will see you regardless. Try and hold on if you can. Your GP will only tell you to re test in 7 days to see if you’re still pregnant, that is all. So don’t panic and no rush. Just have a chilled Sunday today

mummytoonetryingfortwo · 27/04/2025 09:48

The bleeding has been on and off all night. Nothing on a pad but quite a bit when I wipe. I barely slept, but I’m hoping that the fact it’s not picked up any more is a good sign

mummytoonetryingfortwo · 27/04/2025 20:56

The bleeding has stopped so I have my fingers crossed 🤞

I had a bleed at 7 weeks and the cramping was horrific. One thing my consultant said though was to keep active. Don’t keep your legs up. You don’t want old blood lingering and posing infection risk.

fingers crossed for you

mummytoonetryingfortwo · 28/04/2025 11:53

So my husband managed to find a private scan clinic that would scan me, on the caveat that they likely wouldn’t see anything.

I am, according to their scan, much further along than first thought. My periods have been irregular for the last year or so, I had put it down to stress and when I bled last month I just assumed it was lighter due to a stressful time at work. I’m actually nine-ish weeks pregnant with identical twins.

I’m in utter shock. They think I have a small hematoma and have recommended I book in to see the EPU as soon as possible.

Oh wow. So happy for this update. What a lovely surprise.

What a lovely suprise that the bleed last month wasn’t actually a period. Hoping things go well for you from here.

WickWood · 28/04/2025 12:22

Wow, congratulations! How are you feeling? X

mummytoonetryingfortwo · 28/04/2025 12:31

I’m absolutely in shock. I’d called in sick from work this morning, so now I’m at home digesting the news

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 28/04/2025 12:32

Oh my gosh! That’s lovely lovely news, OP!

PinkFrogss · 28/04/2025 12:47

Oh wow OP that sounds like quite the happy surprise. Congratulations!

mummytoonetryingfortwo · 28/04/2025 12:58

I can’t believe it. We’ve been trying for three years, about to start ivf, and now we have two miracles on the way
