Clear blue tests came back positive, doctor's came back negative

Me and my partner have been trying for a baby for a few months now (I have pos, so I've been using the app flow to follow when my periods were and should be)
Flow says that I'm late by three days, I take a clear blue 6 day early test - positive, I take two more, again positive. I have a very light, light bleed (more pink than red) and only shows when I wipe. I've had it for a day or two which I'm sure is implantation bleeding.
Just been to the doctor's, did a test there and it came back negative. The doctor says that their tests are better than the shops sell (which I find very hard to believe) clear blue are the best tests out there.

So she takes blood and tells me that she'll let me know in the afternoon.

Now I'm panicking that I'm not pregnant, the clear blue tests clearly showed positive. Help!!!!

Agh, this is tough for you! I have my fingers crossed that maybe it was just a fluke and all will be reassuring with your bloods🤞🏼
Have you a picture of your tests? It's just that Clearblue are actually pretty much the worst brand out there for showing evaporation lines where it's not a true positive, just a weird way the test dries. You'll see so many threads on MN about how bad they are so stick with another brand of pink dye tests for more clarity. Hopefully that's not the case but just worth mentioning. How many weeks do you predict you are?

Atarin · 24/04/2025 11:29

Clear blue are the worst tests out there. I have had so many false positives with them, my husband even got a line on one of them (I got so fed up I made him do one!).

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do now apart from wait for the bloods, but at least they will be a definitive result. In future I highly recommend avoiding the clear blue tests as they give so much worry. I hope things work out for you.

All the dr means is that their tests are much much more highly sensitive.

sheknowsitstoolate · 24/04/2025 11:31

Could you get a different test while you’re waiting? Hopefully it’s good news for you but I’ve heard loads of clear blue stories about them being a load of crap x

Atarin · 24/04/2025 11:33

Also, I’ve just seen you took the test before you had implementation bleeding. It would be near impossible to get a positive test before implementation as the tests rely on HCG which is produced after implementation. I think the first tests were false positives, but if you have had implementation bleeding after taking the test, it could be that you are pregnant now, but just too early to test.

Just so you know

if men get a positive on a pregnancy test they need to get that checked. Don’t mean to alarm you but it can be due to cancer of the prostrate I believe.

fairgame84 · 24/04/2025 11:33

Clear blue are the worst. I got a false positive on them. Try a first response.

LolaJ87 · 24/04/2025 11:33

I agree that Clearblue are the absolute worst for false positives, evaps and indents. I don't know how they're still allowed to be sold.

Really hope you are pregnant though @tigerlill - can you get a pink dye test in the meantime (First Response or Boots early test maybe) which should give you a good idea of the outcome?

Really? I didn't know. I'm sad now 😭 I hate waiting 😭

Clear blue tests really aren’t the best tests, they’re known for giving evaporation lines which look like false positives. Saying that though you could just be very early and so not showing as positive on all tests yet. The blood tests will be more accurate so wait and see what those show.

Thanks, no it was definitely a duff batch!!!

BlondeMummyto1 · 24/04/2025 11:35

I would go and pick up some pink line tests but it seems more and more people are getting indents/chemicals.

I've just ordered some first response tests, I'll get rid of the clear blue ones.

Pop into any Boots or Tesco literally anywhere that sells pink dye tests so that you're not left waiting!

I should be in week 4

Update: I've stopped the light bleeding, so I am 95% sure that it was a implantation bleed.

ChristmasFairyLiquid · 24/04/2025 15:54

@tigerlill I hope you get the result you want.

To echo PPs, I had a false positive on a clearblue - which horrified me, I’m 52 😳🤣

Did a test at the hospital and had bloods - negative. The nurse said clearblue are notorious for false positives and the most accurate are the cheapest tests from Home Bargains - who knew?!

That's surprising 😅

Hi op, pink dyes always the most reliable.

as well as a dodgy test it could be chemical as well where it’s implanted (hcg positive) but then failed shortly afterwards meaning hcg is now reducing hence negative test.

let us know how you get on x

BlondeMummyto1 · 25/04/2025 10:15

Did your bloods come back?
