Baby being difficult at 21 week scan

Hello everyone

i had my 21 week scan today and thankfully the baby was all fine anomaly wise but the sonographer was having trouble seeing everything. I had to go away and come back, eat something sugary etc for her to be able to see the heart as the baby was spine up. When I asked for gender she said she thinks it’s a girl as she couldn’t see any clear boy parts but they also had their legs crossed and was backwards so she couldn’t really see 🤣 she didn’t sound sure and I know it’s not 100% accurate. I’m going to book in for a private scan in two weeks as that’s the recommended wait period apparently, then my eldest boy can come to the scan too. its killing me not knowing as with my first it was a very clear boy! I know nub theory isn’t accurate either but they were all convinced it was a boy except one which said girl.

just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and whether the outcome for gender was the same or you got a surprise?

Oh ha, cheeky little one 🐒

This happened to me last time in that they really weren't able to see the base of the spine and after sending me for a walk etc they booked me in for another scan. Luckily we didn't want to know the sex so that wasn't an issue.
Hope you can get your scan booked in for a convenient time and baby is feeling more cooperative, lovely for your son to be there too 😊

This is the first time I’ve had it happen all the other scans were really smooth! I think they were running late cause it took so long too so I feel like she was rushing seeing the gender to get us out of there and definitely wasn’t a clear picture. It says the private ones are 99.9% accurate so I’ll know in two weeks and it will be nice for my son to find out at the same time even though he says he really wants a boy 🤣 thankyou for your comment ❤️

Ahh both my boys were always little pickles at scans, my second in particular! We went for a private scan at 17 weeks to find out gender & they had to get us back at another time as he just wouldn’t cooperate! They got it eventually but he was a boy, which I think is easier to tell for sure 😅
I had extra scans for being higher risk and nearly everytime I had to do the sugary drink/walk to get the right measurements. He’s nearly 2 now and still never stays still… hope baby cooperates for your next scan xx

My scan was like this, i was in over an hour, was tilted upside down, had my stomach shook, did star jumps, went for a walk/jog, had fizzy pop etc... But I was told it was a very obvious boy! Hope you get a more clearer outcome at your next scan! X

Aw no I’ve never had it happen before 🤣 the sonographer got all the images she needed to confirm that the baby is healthy but I think by that point she was running late and took all of two seconds confirming the gender but at least I know now everything’s healthy. Fingers crossed they cooperate for the next one 🤞🏻x

she kept shaking my belly aswell and told me to lift my bum up and shake 🤣🤣🤣 I wasn’t tilted upside down though didn’t know what was a thing! I think the sonographer didn’t have time to wait for the baby to turn for the gender so I’m still not convinced there weren’t boy bits hiding but I’ll find out soon enough lol thankyou 🤞🏻 x

@Concernedcitizen98 Yes to the lifting up your hips and shaking your belly!! It didn't help that I had a drop dead gorgeous male sonographer 🤣
