Good morning!

so last night my husband and I had sex for the first time in ages. Afterwards I went to the loo and noticed my vagina felt a little sore and when I wiped there was some pink blood on the tissue. It was only a small amount and was gone after the second wipe. Went to sleep and went to the loo as usual first thing, when I wiped there was nothing on the tissue but when I pressed the tissue in a little more, there was a tiny little bit there. I phoned MAU and they said I didn’t need to come in but keep a pad on and monitor throughout the day. They said it could just be the cervix getting irritated from sex and that this is quite common.

i’m 26 weeks and this is my first pregnancy conceived via ivf. Had a hematoma at the start but that has gone. I’m just looking for similar experiences. I will of course do as MAU have asked but it’s always good to hear from others as I say, this is my first pregnancy.

Thank you so much for your help!

24 weeks here. There's more blood flow round your genitals in pregnancy and so there can be slight swelling and increased senstivity. I'm sure the little bit of blood is related to this and a little soreness in your vagina or labia, or in the cervix as you've been told rather than anything that would remotely affect baby 😊

Thank you so much @JuneySunshine i really appreciate you getting back to me. I’ve been having a pretty anxious morning so it’s always a bit of a relief to talk to someone about it! Yes I’m thinking that’s what it could be and that’s what MAU said on the phone when I asked what it could be. Not to be too graphic but I think the position we were in was possibly a bit aggravating so to speak so I’m really just hoping that’s what it was. Although it does mean my husband will probably never have sex with me again….poor thing! We were just so freaked out and were being so careful. I’m
definitely still a little sore down there and feel fine in my back etc so no cramping or anything. Fingers crossed all will be well, just good to have some reassurance.

I had this twice in early pregnancy and it took a few days to clear up. First time it happened I went to the toilet to let the semen flow out and I look down and see dark brown. Second time it was much lighter.

I’m 17 weeks and I never experienced any bleeding at all until I had intercourse with my partner last night. He stopped mid intercourse and said there’s blood. It reminded me of when I was on my period and we would have intercourse. I did go to the ER and the ultrasound came back. Great baby’s heartbeat was fine and I woke up this morning with no spotting. It’s definitely scary.

Thank you @emmatcc1 after speaking to a few people it sounds like it can be quite common but ultimately harmless to the baby. Still scary though especially for it to happen to you twice! Hope all well with you now x

Oh my goodness @Acosner89 that sounds super scary and much more of a flow than I had. So pleased everything is ok with you and the baby 🩷 did they say what it was at the hospital?

They didn’t say too much. Because the baby was fine I followed up with my OB and I’m waiting for a reply. It’s very likely that the cervix may be torn a little bit. I’m not sure but everything is fine this morning. I’m wiping Clear again I’m pretty sure the doctor will put me on pelvic rest which means no sex for my boyfriend

Here’s what I got from the ultrasound last night in the ER

Despite the bleeding that brought you to the ER, everything on this scan looks healthy and stable. The baby is growing on track, your cervix is closed, placenta is well-positioned, and there’s no sign of active problems.

The bleeding is likely due to cervical irritation or possibly a small vessel getting disrupted—especially since they ruled out more serious causes like placenta previa or fluid leakage.

emmatcc1 · 23/04/2025 15:25

@MrsBP15 yes after a previous miscarriage it was scary to see. I’m wondering if there was an underlying cause because 2 weeks ago I bled heavily for about 2 hours but they couldn’t find a reason as to why. I’m 15 weeks now and all good.

So pleased that everything came back as it should and that your baby is happy and healthy 🙂 I think a mild irritation of vagina/cervix is what has happened with me and even if I wanted to have sex again my husband ain’t going there. Poor man lay awake all night worried sick so it’s off the cards for the rest of the pregnancy!

I’m so sorry for your previous loss but so pleased to hear all is progressing well for you in this pregnancy. It’s so tricky with bleeding because it’s that thing of it could be nothing or it could be something….scary all the same!

Idk how my partner will handle no sex. We’re very active in that dept in our relationship lol. One thing I can say we don’t lack in . Im already a high risk pregnancy due to my age, weight and hypertension. Not to mention I have depression, anxiety and PTSD. So you can imagine how worried I made myself after seeing blood down there .
I hope all is well with you and you have a safe pregnancy 🙏🏼
