41 week sweep success stories?

41+1 with second baby. First went into spontaneous labour at 40+3. Had a second sweep this morning, really hoping it does something so I don't have to go for an induction. Can anyone share success stories having a sweep at 41+ weeks? How fast did it work for you? I need some hope...

Was 14 yrs ago but I had a sweep at 41+7 and was in labour approx 10hrs later. Dd arrived approx 24hrs after the sweep on the day i was due to be induced. I did tell the midwife to give it her best and not take any prisoners. It wasn't comfortable!

In a similar situation currently 40+3, first DS was here by now after one sweep. Had a sweep earlier in week however just lost mucus plug and no other signs getting another tomorrow so fingers crossed!!! Thought baby would be here by now since DS was :(

@koalabearboomboxany movement?

koalabearboombox · 18/04/2025 17:26

@Hohofortherobbers nothing 😔 I've decided to give it another couple of days (until 41+5) and then if nothings started I'll ask for an induction.

Were you at all dilated at your sweep op? Mine worked with dd1 at 40+3 but the midwife said inwas already about 1cm anyway think they only work if your body is gearing up for labour anyway

@WhatMe123 I was 1cm dilated at my 40w and 41w sweeps, she said each time she'd been able to "stretch" my cervix to 2cm. Lost my plug first time but this time, nothings happened.

I had first sweep at 40+4, nothing happened, followed by second one at 41 which started things off about 6-7 hours later and baby born next morning at 41 +1. I was mighty glad as I was booked for induction at 41 +4 and didn’t fancy that. Good luck.

Had 2 and worked both times, first one done in the morning, labour started within a couple of hours and baby arrived by l early evening. The second one done in the afternoon kicked in about 1 in the morning, baby arrived by early morning. Both pretty fast labours. They hurt and the midwife really got in there and dislodged the mucus plug which is why I think there were successful, I have friends who have had them and say it didn't hurt and labour didn't start.

Just commenting to say that if you do end up having an induction don’t panic - I was induced with both of my DC and both births went really well. You hear some horror stories but there are lots of positive ones too (just like with natural labour really).
