Hi everyone

I thought it was 28 weeks that you’re meant to see a pattern or consistency with movement but my consultant told me it’s 24 weeks?

I asked her about the meaning of consistency and patterns but she just said I’d get used to my baby 🫠 which wasn’t helpful.

im 22 weeks baby is moving around especially in the evenings when I sit quietly but I feel a bit lost with when and how I should monitor her movements.

any advice would be much appreciated x

I’m currently pregnant with number 3 and I can’t say I’ve ever noticed a pattern! I started to feel movements from about 18 weeks and then just kind of noticed if they slowed down a bit if that makes sense. Not in a “omg baby isn’t moving at 6pm like normal” sense, just noticing that maybe I hadn’t felt a movement for a couple of hours so time to try with a fizzy drink and a lie down which sorted it 9 times out of 10.

I did go in a couple of times for monitoring with number 1 as I was nervous after a previous loss but it was fine both times. I’m not sure talking about patterns is that helpful, it sets the expectation that the baby will follow a schedule and they most likely won’t ever!

I don't think feeling the pattern means "yup there's the 6pm kicks" but you kinda get to know your baby, some more active in the morning, some at night, some roll around all day etc and then you start to pay attention to changes. Reduced level of movement or much more movement. I always found I'd have a sense as to how active they'd been through the day and could use this as a gauge, were they normal today or was it different 😁

I started making notes (where I can) once I started feeling kicks. That was around two weeks ago at 22 weeks. I notice my baby is very active late at night and quiet during the day. This is over a two week observation!

some say it’s too early for them to establish a routine now but I will get more kicks around midnight than during the day

Thanks everyone. Baby is really active at night when I’m getting to sleep and then around 5-6am with more activity at 7pm-9pm I suppose, In a way that’s a pattern.
There have been times where I haven’t felt her (prob busy/dietracted) so I’ll sit quietly and then get a kick which is very reassuring.

i don’t think the consultant was there to be reassuring 😂 which is every consultant in my opinion.
