Awful morning sickness

I am 6.5 weeks pregnant and suffering day and night with awful sickness and nausea. I have a doctors appointment in the morning to get some medication etc but I wondered if anyone could recommend something that worked for them, ideally that didn't make them drowsy as I have other children to look after. I have taken Cyclizine before and it didn't do anything so I am keen to avoid that one and advocate for myself for something stronger as I'm already feeling very low about coping with this. Thank you.

My sister who suffered from hg swore by the car sickness bands? Hope it eases off soon for you x

I had bad sickness in 3 pregnancies and antiemetics in 4, each pregnancy I've moved up the prescribing path. First cyclizine, second short trial cyclizine then prochlorazine, third pregnancy straight on to metoclopramide and cyclizine, fourth straight on to xonvea and on this I had barely any nausea and sickness. I was started on it as soon as the nausea started although the sickness in this pregnancy has been better than the other pregnancies

I had HG in my first pregnancy and had Prochlorperazine which helped but the nausea and vomiting only stopped after I gave birth.
This pregnancy ive tried Metoclopramide which did nothing, Prochlorperazine which didnt help either and now Im on Xonvea.
This is helping, its reduced my vomiting for 8+ times a day to maybe 3-4 if im lucky.
Had to get EPU to prescribe though as GPs start in the cheaper drugs and Xonvea is the most expensive.

Thanks all. I will ask for Xonvea and see how far I get.

I took Xonvea from around 7 - 16 weeks and it helped with the vomiting hugely! Pretty much cut it out completely, although I did still have nausea. You can’t eat for a couple of hours before you take it and it did make me feel tired but I was a lot more able to look after my toddler!

After about 14 weeks I started to struggle with diarrhoea. I tried to stop taking the pills to see if they were causing it and the diarrhoea would stop but then the sickness would re-start. I ended up stopping at 16 weeks because the sickness was naturally subsiding and I couldn’t cope with the diarrhoea anymore! It stopped once I stopped the meds.

I bought some sick bags off Amazon (was also on meds) but psychologically knowing I had a bag with me was really reassuring.

i would genuinely consider getting signed off work. The first trimester was hell for me x

I had acupuncture and used sea sicknesses bands until I went into labour. It didn’t take the sickness away completely but definitely did make it manageable. I hope you find something that works for you.

Thanks all. I’m on Xonvea now but finding it makes me very sleepy. Is there any way to prevent that? Thanks

@Sunshine6195102when are you taking it?

Sunshine6195102 · 17/04/2025 16:37

I’m taking 2 at night and 1 at lunchtime but I might increase to 1 in the morning as well. Thanks

@Sunshine6195102have you tried just taking two at night? It might be enough to starve off the sickness. That’s what I ended up doing! The one in the morning was really knocking me out x

Sunshine6195102 · 17/04/2025 18:50

Thank you @heroinechic. I’ll perhaps try that as my husband has been around this week off work but I need to look after my children next week so can’t be feeling so groggy. The sickness is making me feel so low and regretful about allowing myself to get pregnant again as I just feel so rubbish but I am trying to tell myself I will feel human again soon.
