I’d give the hospital a call. I was told to go get checked out if I passed anything bigger than a 50p coin just incase so I’d definitely be making sure all is okay.

Neevo · 11/04/2025 21:22

Have you had a fever or anything? Or felt a bit ropey?

justmewithmylifetoday · 11/04/2025 21:28

I would call the hospital, and take a photo or the blob of stuff itself to show someone.

Does it smell? Do you feel unwell?

It smells like a period. The other day I felt like I caught a chill.

I’ve felt overly tired and drained. I did feel like I caught a chill the other day.

I’d for sure take your temp, anything above 37.5 I’d call it in.

MigGril · 11/04/2025 21:46

I agree with everyone else, you need to seek medical advice. Especially if you've been feeling unwell.

TeddyBeans · 11/04/2025 21:47

Similar sort of thing happened to me, called maternity triage and they took a look, swabbed me to make sure I didn't have an infection and sent me on my way. I (and they) assumed whatever it was, a bit of placenta, sack, lining, etc was the last of it and it was. No infection or any other concerns. I did notice that I was giving off an unpleasant odour before I passed the clots though.

I would get in contact with your hospital, either 111 or through maternity triage if you're still able to access them. It's always safer to get checked out

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 11/04/2025 22:03

@April1997 that looks like a bit of placenta but surely they would have made sure it was all out when baby was delivered??

Shoemadlady · 11/04/2025 22:22

You need to call your maternity team now. Any clots bigger than 50p and a chill sounds like an infection. Don’t delay calling them.

Dueanamechange2025 · 11/04/2025 22:24

I would definitely get checked out just to be on the safe side.

MrsPositivity1 · 11/04/2025 23:30

Oh goodness, definitely contact your hospital

CatsWhiskerz · 11/04/2025 23:34

That looks like placenta to me ... phone the hospital and see if you can send the photo. Check your temperature too in case it's caused an infection

I had a postpartum haemorrhage at home, 4 weeks after delivery. Didn’t have much bleeding in those four weeks after birth and when I did it was always red. Raised it with midwives a few times but it was covid days and they didn’t want to see me. Anyway one day I was having dinner and then I started passing clots, really rapidly lots of them, had to go straight to A+E and thought I was going to die with the blood loss. They think I had retained placenta (so even though they do check the placenta it’s not foolproof).
I’d get checked out - maybe ask for a scan to check nothing else in there?

HereintheloveofChristIstand · 12/04/2025 00:25

Gosh that is terrifying- looks like a jellyfish!
Agree with PP - get this seen. If it’s an infection or you have any afterbirth left, it will need removing or it can turn nasty very quickly.

ForPinkTurtle · 12/04/2025 09:21

This happened to me, looked very similar. I hadn't felt well the whole 4 weeks postpartum and i couldnt understand why. One evening I passed something very similar and called triage. They asked me to keep it and take it in, it was a piece of retained placenta. Quite dangerous. I had to have a scan to check there was nothing else and precautionary antibiotics and a swab. Definitely go and get seen.
Honestly within a few days of it passing though I felt absolutely brilliant so I assume that was what was making me feel lousy.

GroovyChick87 · 12/04/2025 09:26

Looks like a bit of placenta to me. Has your bleeding been that heavy since birth or has it just suddenly gone like that? It's possible it's your first period post birth and it's pushing out something that was left behind. I got my periods back at 6 weeks after all of my sections. Definitely get checked over.

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 12/04/2025 09:31

I passed something similar which I believe was retained placenta. It was the size of my palm and quite solid like a piece of liver. No one seemed overly bothered and my post partum bleeding was a lot lighter after it had passed. Check with midwives / the hospital though.

Lavenderandlemons · 12/04/2025 12:24

OP I'm a midwife and don't like to give medical advice online but I'd bet my hat that that's a piece of your placenta. Can even see the membranes. If I'm right, that's really not good that they left that behind. Especially at a c section. Have you still got the piece?
You need to present to your maternity A&E. Just go in. Bring it if you have it. They'll need to check for infection, probably give antibiotics and I would push for a scan to check for any further remaining products.
