hey, I hope I’m posting in the right place I’m just wondering if anyone can help. I’m a first time mum, baby due 1st august and I’m so unsure of what clothes I need. Will mainly dress him in babygrows (I know it’s generally one layer more than you). I’ll pop a list of things I’ve already got, sorry if it’s a bit chaotic, I brought from different places so everything’s in different sizes and I think that’s what’s throwing me off (although the sizes are pretty similar)! Also is a swaddle/sleep bag the safest way for baby to sleep? any recommendations would be great and what tog etc? thanks for any help in advance x

Sounds like you're doing really well! I wouldn't buy too much more in the smallest sizes, because 1) they're in them for so little time and 2) you'll get given a lot my family and friends!

Always remember that's is as easy to go and grab another packet of vests from Tesco as it is to pick up a pint of milk so don't feel you need to have everything ready and waiting.

And yes, sleeping bags are generally considered the safest way for baby to sleep. Look up the Lullaby Trust and the Safe Sleep 7 for tips.

Best of luck xxx

I remember agonising about this some two years back now :) You can buy as you go rather than having everything in, for example I bought newborn and just in case 0-1 month and my boy was born 10lbs, absolute whopper who wouldn't have fit the newborn stuff.

He was July 26th baby in London so was boiling, looking back I over dressed him from worry 😅

Swaddle at first and sleeping bags good, tog size really depends on how warm it is and how warm/cool you can make your home really, so best to read the product description regarding tog size.

Great list! Id get 5 pairs of leggings in size 0-3 to wear with the long vests, and 5 knitted cardigans - they wash well and go with everything!

My baby was over 9lb, ended up in newborn clothes for less than a week, was in 3-6 month clothes at 5 weeks old.

My friends baby born same time was only 5lb and obviously was in smaller clothes a lot longer. But then had a massive growth spurt and basically skipped a size.

You won't know what you need until you need it. We got a donation of a few newborn bits, bought more 0-3, and decided if baby was small DH or family could pop somewhere like Asda and get small baby stuff.

We also got a lot of vinted and donated from friends because they're in the clothes such little time.

You have plenty. I wouldn't bother with first size and 0-1, they're the same thing just depends on how the brand names them so a waste to have both. Return one or the other if you can. And keep the tags on tiny baby to return as most people won't have a tiny baby. Congrats OP!

I had an August baby and for the first week she still spent a lot of time in a vest and sleep suit.
Then it was a lot of long sleeved vests and leggings then added a top or cardigan if it cooled down. This was a heat wave summer.
I had a small baby who was in first size until 8 weeks, 0-1 month from 3-10 weeks and then in 0-3 from 2-5.5 months!

I had vests, sleep suits and a few leggings but quickly found I hated sleep suits with an absolute passion and now I'm expecting a second I will be using them as little as possible so I wouldn't think too much about what you are going to prefer ahead of time. I much preferred clothes during the day and sleep suits at night. Leggings and tops or dungarees and tights.

I had 2 packets of Asda first size vests and sleep suits to start with and a handful of clothes bought second hand on eBay then bought more once she was hear once I knew what fitted and what I liked. We also got quite a lot of 0-3 clothes donated and given as gifts.

You need more baby grows.

My children were in 0-3 months in a matter of days, they were big babies but disproportionately long. They also both had extreme reflux and could easily go through 8 babies grows in 24 hours. This number is unusual.
