Discharge or waters? TMI picture

Hi all, FTM here so really clueless. I am 39 weeks pregnant. tomorrow. For the past 4 days I have been loosing bits of my mucus plug (no blood), today didn’t loose any but have been having this watery discharge for the past couple of hours (TMI picture), probably had this amount times two (had another set of panties and swapped them). Is this just more runny discharge than usual or could it be my waters leaking? How would I tell?
Thanks!

Is it constant? Or has it stopped?

CSmumtobe · 10/04/2025 20:42

Not a constant flow, seems to just drip out on and off?

I would say probably discharge, I had this sort of amount near the end of my pregnancy but if you're unsure please just get checked out rather than having that doubt in your mind!

It looks a bit pinkish which is more like waters, I would put a pad on to catch any more, and if still unsure go in and they can check the pad x

Thanks all. All day yesterday didn't have much of it, last night had a bit of it on my underwear again, called the midwife and she said to put a maternity pad on and wait a couple of hours to see if more came out. I didn’t really notice any so removed the pad and went to sleep. Woke up an hour ago and got up and my underwear was wet again (TMI pic) and it kinda dripped down my leg but now I put a maternity pad on about an hour ago and nothing else came out. Doesn’t have a tint by the way seems to be clear. Would you call the midwife again? Feel like I’m going mad as it’s the second time I put a pad on and nothing comes out that I can tell.

In my own experience waters gush out and don’t stop. But it could potentially be a very slow leak? I think it’s worth going into be checked because you will be at risk of infection if your waters are going.

Eenameenadeeka · 12/04/2025 05:10

Looks like it could be water to me. It can leak random bits at a time, doesn't have to all be at once. If it goes on too long, there is a risk of infection. They can rest with a swab at the hospital

CrispAppleStrudels · 12/04/2025 05:44

Put a maternity pad in, then lie down for 15mins or so. When you stand up, if there's a bit of a gush, then it could be your waters. You can then take the pad to triage and they do a little test with a swab on it. I'd just ring triage and say you aren't sure what is going on and so please can you come in and get checked out. If it is your waters, you are at increased risk of infection between them breaking and labour starting. I think there's a certain time frame before they need to discuss induction and potentially antibiotics (especially if you are GBS+). Noone will mind you getting checked out.

With my first pregnancy I had the full on gush before contractions started, with my second though it was a small leak when I was cooking dinner then the gush came 10
mins before he was born. I would get them checked.

CSmumtobe · 12/04/2025 08:41

Thank you all! I called triage and spoke to a midwife and will go and get it checked this morning.

Thanks again all. It was my waters, waiting for a doctor to see if they will induce me as been leaking since Thurs evening and am having contractions but they’re not painful so may just be practice ones. Baby girl is doing fine in there though :) but just wanted to say to anyone reading definitely get anything unusual checked even if you think it’s silly as it may not be.
