Hi everyone, I’m after some reassurance if possible šŸ™šŸ»

Some background info:
• My LMP was 1st Feb
• Positive OPK on 20th Feb
• Positive preg test on the 8th March (clear blue said 1-2 weeks)
• I have Factor V Leiden and history of MMC’s

I went for a scan on the 17th March, they could see a sac but nothing inside it. Said I was measuring 5 weeks (going off my ovulation date I expected to be around this) and to come back for a rescan in 2 weeks to confirm viability.

I went for my second scan on the 31st March expecting to measure 7 weeks but was only measuring 5+4. There is a heartbeat but the sonographer said it looks like it maybe only started recently, which to me says it’s weak. The nurse and sonographer didn’t seem concerned, said the scans aren’t always accurate at this early stage and said for me to go back for another scan on 16th April.

Has anyone else had this happen to them and had a positive outcome?

I have a 2.5yo son but had 2 MMC’s before him so I’m panicking a little šŸ™

Also, just to note, I’m currently taking Aspirin (since ovulation), Dalteparin (since the first scan) and Progesterone (since the second scan).

I’m really not sure as I don’t have experience of this but just wanted to send you love and positive thoughts xx

DCmum95 · 09/04/2025 23:13

hi, I’m going through something similar. I have had a couple of scans and the most recent one should have been measuring at 7.5 weeks but only measuring at 6.5 with a weak heartbeat. The midwife was very blunt and gave a bleak outcome (which I almost appreciated as I didn’t want to get my hopes up).
what I would say though is that with scans at such an early gestation we are literally talking milimetres of difference and I think surely there must be a slight bit of user error/difference in scan measurements!!
im hoping all is ok for you! I often wonder whether growth doesn’t always follow the completely week by week growth and as most scans are at 12 weeks, it’s not known if they had a slow start or a spurt at a certain amount of weeks.
please let me know how you get on and wanted to send love from someone in a similar boat xx

Hi, didn't want to read and run. I'm no expert but I've seen enough threads on here and have heard from friends where this didn't end well.

It means between 17th March and 31st March the baby didn't grow much (4 days)

As previous poster said, at this stage it's a matter of mm.

The odds are it isn't looking good but there are some success stories.. wishing for the best outcome for you. Good luck x

@DCmum95Thats not too much difference, I’m surprised the midwife gave a bleak outcome, I’ve heard of people being 2 weeks behind and still being okay! Don’t loose hope šŸ™ŒšŸ» I’m just worried because I’m 3 weeks behind what I should be (based on my period), and haven’t heard anyone mention that before in a positive light. They mentioned about it being so early that it’s hard for the scans to be 100% accurate, but I had an early scan with my son and that was pretty much spot on šŸ˜” Sending love and luck to you xx

WildflowerPetals · 10/04/2025 17:14

@Lulu89xThe nurse said that because they were measuring just a sac in the first scan but measuring a baby in the second, that’s where the difference in sizes and seeming lack of growth comes from, cause they’re measuring 2 different things šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø x

Like you said, next scan measuring crl and not sac size might correspond with the time passed from last crl measurement.
Also, still room for a growth spurt!
It's a great sign you've seen a hb too.
Sending good vibes fir a growy baby for you!

Also we have the same dates for lmp and ov šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
How are you feeling other than the anxiousness?

Thank you, she said that as my previous scan was measuring 5.5 weeks and by this point it should have been 7.5 weeks and was only measuring 6.5 I think, with a very faint heartbeat she didn’t think it would be likely positive outcome. There was something next to the fetal pole too which she said could have been the fetal pole starting to break down, but we will see tomorrow morning.
xx

@LaTableFingers crossed šŸ¤žšŸ» How funny we both have the same dates! Tbh I’m trying not to think about it too much or I just start spiralling, just counting down the days to my scan x

Hi @DCmum95, just checking in, how did you get on at your scan? X

Thank you for asking. It wasn’t good news for me unfortunately as expected. There was no heartbeat at my scan yesterday and am seeing if anything happens over the weekend before going in Tuesday for surgery if nothing has happened. X sending you all the love and baby dust for you, when is your scan? Xxx

Londonwaiting · 12/04/2025 21:08

If you think the Drs have got the dates right then I don’t think there is any realistic hope. Sorry OP.

WildflowerPetals · 13/04/2025 08:38

@DCmum95So sorry to hear this, sending lots of love ā¤ļø My scan is on Wednesday, just counting down the days x

@LondonwaitingI know my dates are right, but obviously who knows if the scan dates are right. I’ve heard they can be off due to how small baby is.

Three more days until your scan.. I hope it all works out for you and they just got it wrong.

What a stressful thing to go through. Even though I think the odds are stacked against you, I actually know someone who measures two weeks behind on two of her children. I think they are 9 and 5 now!

goldenretrieverenergy · 13/04/2025 11:41

I was in a similar situation (just empty yolk sac at 5w). I was scanned again in 2 weeks times and everything was fine. Sometimes it’s too early to scan. I was very anxious as well, so I completely feel for you.
I hope you’ll get a positive result on Wednesday.

My obgyn suggests only scanning from 7-8 weeks on, because early scans can cause a lot of anxiety.

My obgyn suggests only scanning from 7-8 weeks on, because early scans can cause a lot of anxiety.

The OP did have her second scan at what should have been over 7 weeks and was only measuring 5.4 which is why I think it’s looking less likely to be good news. Going by official dating by her last period for her second scan she should have been over 8 weeks, but she ovulated later than average so would have been over 7 instead. So that’s 2 weeks out which is quite a lot at over 7 weeks.

Not seeing much and having only a yolk sac at 5 weeks is perfectly normal which is why most EPUs won’t scan before 6 weeks and IVF clinics prefer 7 weeks or more.

Obviously sometimes in the early days things can definitely be wrong as the sizes are so small. But it normally gets clearer and easier to date from 7 weeks.

DCmum95 · 19/04/2025 19:10

How did your scan go @WildflowerPetals sending lots of love and hope it was a positive one xx

Hi @DCmum95, unfortunately it was bad news. Having D&C on Tuesday next week. I’m doing alright though, I expected it so was already mentally prepared. Thank you for asking xx

So sorry to hear this, I know the feeling with mentally preparing. I had my d+c last Tuesday and although it’s so hard, it helps being mentally prepared beforehand xx
