Hi, I’m hoping for some reassurance? At 17 weeks I had a really bad bleed which led to me having a scan. At 17 weeks the femur was on the 21st percentile. Now at my routine 20 week scan he’s only measuring at 4th percentile femur length. Has anyone had something similar?

Those measurements are not very accurate. Mine showed as being on the 6th centile at the 20 week scan. He was back on the 25th centile at 34 weeks scan. Perfectly formed 8 month old baby now. He is not the tallest but both me and dad are on the shorter side anyway.

This has made me feel so much better thank you for taking the time to respond x

My son was 4th percentile femur length from 12 weeks onwards and 95th for head circumference by the end! He is fine and a slightly short, but not noticeably so, teenager now (I am also short). He does have a reasonably large head in that he has to wear large size caps but you would never know by looking at him.

Not a medical opinion but anecdotally short femur measurements seem to sometimes correllate with being a bit short?

My DS1 and DGS both had very short femurs (and big heads)
DS1 was short til he was 16 and then managed to grow..he's about 5 ft 10
DGS is nearly 4 and very short for his age ..1st-2nd centile ..short parents, but perfectly ok..just not likely to be very tall!
