Hi, I took a boots early detection test when I woke up but now I’m doubting whether is could be positive because 2.5hours later I did a digital clear blue ‘how many weeks’ test and it said ‘not pregnant’. I took the digital as my periods are quite irregular so not sure how many weeks I’d be. Do you think the line tests could be indent/evap line? First photo was within 3 minutes and second photo is after quite a while - the line possibly looks quite thin so maybe not a proper line? I’m so confused now! X

If you're really early on, always use FMU as the HCG concentration is higher. They both look positive to me. When is your period due/how mant DPO are you?

LividSunshine · 04/04/2025 12:16

They're both positive.

Lines tend to dry darker.

The digitals have a higher threshold for detection, and if you did it 2.5 hours later after drinking water etc it was probably a dilute wee.

I'd say from the line you're about to miss a period.

My cycle is all over the place, the last period I had was 21st February and I’m not sure when I ovulated! Not very helpful of me!
I did a test a few days ago and it was negative so maybe I’m about 3 weeks today.
I have done 2 more line tests today (obsessive I know) and there are lines on all them (clear blue early and another boots) I think il re try a digital in a few days just so I have it in writing 😅

In a few days it’ll be a very obvious positive. Use FMU but from the tests above I’d say you’re definitely pregnant!

You shouldn’t tell people that the tests are positive because that is not always the case and it leads to heartbreak. It is also not true that digital tests need higher amounts of hcg, both the early digital and the regular digital can detect from 10ml. Despite what people tell you that it’s impossible to get a false positive from a pregnancy test, trust me it does happen and it happens a lot. It’s also possible and very common that negative tests will turn “positive” after as little as 10 minutes. The only way I’d be trusting these tests is to wait until tomorrow morning and test using different brands in the same urine and see what happens. Home bargains do a pack of 2 tests in a pink box for 89/99p and despite them saying they detect from 25ml, they are extremely reliable tests and will show something if you are pregnant and still early/ below the threshold. I would test again on Sunday if you are wanting to try a digital again. Good luck. Sorry to sound the bearer of bad news but it’s annoying when people tell you with certainty that you are pregnant just because there is a line even when it’s been stated it appeared however long after and was initially negative x

But @K112 there is a visible line on both of those test photos. They’ve detected HCG.

Unless OP is on some very rare fertility drugs, is testing out an HCG trigger or has some very rare types of cancer, they’re positive.

Many, many women get tests like these and go on to have negative tests after, because that’s the nature of an early-detected chemical pregnancy. It doesn’t mean the test was wrong.

PP says the digital tests with weeks have 10miu sensitivity. That is the case if you look at the leaflet online, but actually in reality on the box it says 25miu. I bought one 3 weeks ago with 25miu sensitivity. It may be that they've recently changed to 10miu but there's still loads of 25miu stock with retailers so people are still buying old ones in many places.

That looks like a good line to me OP. As you are likely something like 9-12dpo you are of course at high risk of a chemical, but at the moment I would say you are pregnant. Congratulations 🎉

@LividSunshine You are missing the point. Both of the photos here are of the same test for a start, the second picture was taken quite a while after as stated by the poster which again would point towards it not being an actual positive. Having gone through 6 months of this myself where I have tried probably 25 different brands of tests, I only ever found one reliable brand as near enough all
of the rest at one point would throw out the odd “faint positive”. I started dipping the same brand in the same urine sample at the times I would get these fake positives and surprise the second and 3rd test would be completely blank. This actually led to me believing I was having chemical pregnancies month after month even though I had tested my hcg levels and was most definitely not pregnant. The mind will make you believe anything when you are desperate for something. The bottom line is, it’s normal and common for pregnancy tests to develop grey lines like the posters test did which then turned pink after being left and it’s also normal and common for tests to show faint pink lines just from the way the dye has loaded. This is why I said you shouldn’t tell people they are pregnant because it feeds in many cases an unhealthy habit of testing and convincing yourself there’s a line when deep down you know there isn’t or can’t even
be sure yourself. To the poster- Just wait and see, hold out for a day or 2 and test again if you have to and if you are pregnant the line would most likely have got somewhat darker and will be consistent with each test, I.e a line in every test you do x

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have had lines come up on all tests I have done yesterday and today - none were negative apart from the digital.

I have since looked on the boxes and all the tests that are showing as positive are 10miu and the digital says 25. The lines show up in the time frame and aren’t grey however, they are pale pink and not any darker today than they were yesterday so not getting hopes up.

Photo is another boots early I did this afternoon within time frame. I’m going to save the last digital for Monday morning and see what it says. 😊

Your test from today definitely looks darker than yesterdays. They always dry darker so try not to compare a fresh one to yesterdays. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you!

SWMum9 · 07/04/2025 21:50

Hello,
I had the same experience today. Last 3 days I have had faint pink lines on the boots test. Today did a clear blue digital at 12dpo and it was negative. I didn’t use FMU.
my period was due today but didn’t come…
I’m going to not get my hopes up (had 2 losses in the last 10 months) but going to test tomorrow or weds with FMU using another 10ml test like the boots one.

fingers crossed for you xx
