Holidaying at 34 weeks pregnant

I feel like I am starting to question if I have made a dumb decision and need some outside perspective!
I am currently 31+5 days pregnant, low risk, its our first baby, no issues everything has been going absolutely fine. Me and my husband have booked a last minute holiday to go away at 34 weeks pregnant for 1 week to Majorca, Spain - it wont be anything crazy literally just a last trip the two of us, for some chill time in the sun before our baby arrives.
At first I was really excited, I have the good to go from my midwife, fit to fly note etc but in the back of my head I keep thinking am I stupid for booking a trip so late in my pregnancy? What if I go into labour early and end up having the baby in Spain. I cant work out if I am just overthinking it.

What is everyones thought's, is it too late really?

I think it sounds fine, but bear in mind it might not be that sunny this time of year if you’re hoping for that!!

Hi OP, I travelled when I was 30/31 weeks and then was late enough for me! But only you know how you feel.

Be aware of your airline's policy - ryanair up to 36 weeks and easyJet up to 35 weeks

I personally wouldn’t have liked to travel that late because you might be quite uncomfortable by then, but wear flight socks, stay hydrated, and make sure you’re covered really well by your travel insurance just in case and you’ll most likely be fine!

It's very personal. I did my risk assessment and was prepared to deliver in Italy. I had a good pregnancy and a lovely holiday. I was psychologically prepared to cancel if I thought I would be uncomfortable. I was 34 into 35 weeks. Know what the risks are. Have health insurance. Be prepared

Insurance.

I went away to Majorca around 21 weeks and honestly, I don't think I'd do it again. I just couldn't get comfortable on the sunbeds and really missed my couch at home. I needed my home comforts!
Also I asked my consultant about travel and she said to bear in mind that if the baby is born in another country you can't fly home for six weeks and have to sort a passport before travelling!

Beeches24 · 03/04/2025 23:36

Make sure insurance covers it and check with regards to hospitals in the early.

Would you have funds to pay for extra time out there sorting passport etc?

Make sure you get walk breaks on plane.

I live in continental Europe and went to visit family in Ireland at 35 weeks. The plane journeys were fine, and I really enjoyed my last trip! Swam in the sea, went kayaking, caught up with friends, relaxed on my mum's couch, etc. I didn't manage any very long walks or anything but did what I could. I had a great time!
