I’m not sure who needs to see this but the hook effect is real. Top test was a 5hr hold and bottom one was a 10min hold with a little water.

The hook effect is real and stressful. Hope this helps someone in the future x

It’s definitely real however both of your tests are extremely obvious positives as the test line is very dark.

When I experienced it (9 weeks), the test line was barely visible. After I diluted it with 4:1 water, the test line was darker than the control line.

There really should be something on the instructions that makes people aware of this. So many women who are anxious during pregnancy must fall into this trap. I thought my HCG was slow rising due to these tests, the old light pink caps FRER showed great progress where as these dark pink caps have been a nightmare. Hope this helps someone else who’s anxiously scouring the internet.

The reason being is a pregnancy test is designed to tell you if you’re pregnant or not. It is not designed to tell you the progression of the pregnancy or viability…. A lot of people find comfort in seeing lines getting darker and staying dark but in reality it means nothing. unfortunately pregnancy anxiety gets the best of us and we end up manically testing every day even though we know we are pregnant, myself included! I never got a 3+ weeks on a digi test and here I am, 22+ weeks pregnant.

i hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy x

This is not the hook effect. The top test is a positive and the bottom test is a "dye stealer" aka extremely positive as the test line is so dark it "steals dye" from the control.

As mentioned above, home pregnancy tests are not designed to tell you how pregnant you are, just that you are pregnant or not.

Thanks for your input, why are the two tests so different when they were both taken within the same hour if it’s not the hook effect ? One was a 4hr hold (lines are the same) and one is with a 10min hold (very dark dye stealer)…

The hook effect causes a false negative. Both of these tests are positive, so it’s not the Hook effect.

For what it’s worth, I never found comfort in taking multiple tests after I suffered an ectopic pregnancy and I literally could not get a negative test for 3 months until it resolved itself despite not having a viable pregnancy.

Please, step away from the tests and enjoy your pregnancy 🥰 congratulations!

It’s the control line in the right. Not the hook effect x
