Hi, I'm new here . I went for a 31 week growth scan yesterday. I'm really confused the consultant was little concerned there was a dip on the baby growth on the graph. As it's not what they had predicted . My due date is 1st June but from yesterday scans says 29th of may. An at the moment baby is 3lb. 10z . I just confused . With them saying she is small . I feel rather deflated I have to go back for another one in 2 weeks this as really worried me as any one else experienced this x

No advice, but commenting to follow as I'm 30 weeks and also going for a growth scan tomorrow, so keen to hear other people's experiences if any come up.

In my case it's been almost a week since I was told I was measuring small from a fundal height exam, but I was also told that if the consultant felt a growth scan was needed, I'd be contacted within 3 days. I was surprised to get a call today asking me to come in for a scan tomorrow as I'd assumed the lack of contact meant everything was fine. I was feeling ok about it, but then I got another call a couple of hours later asking if I'd be able to come in immediately for a heartbeat check. I had to say no as I was literally in the middle of teaching and I can't just drop everything! But the shift from no contact at all to sudden urgency to check everything has made me a little nervous.

Growth scans are pretty common, either too big or too small. Sometimes it can pick up problems. It could also that be that you have a small baby.

They can also be inaccurate as you’re talking about something quite small so a few mm makes a big difference in predicted size. It’s another chance to see baby, check everything is OK. You’ll likely need another growth scan because a few mm and a different position can change the prediction.

If there is anything wrong then they’re more likely to find it, monitor it and work to make sure everyone is safe and healthy.

I had growth scans with both my children every two weeks from 28 weeks. Both due to 'measuring small' fundal height is quite rudimentary as every woman is so different.

First baby was born at 40+2 and was 7lb 4

Second baby was born at 36+4 ELCS brought forward due to concerns over size (being too small) and he was 6lb 3 so not exactly that small for being 3 weeks early!

I had low papp-a in my pregnancy (detected at the 12 week blood tests) and was placed on a pathway which required 3-weekly growth scans rather than fundal measurements. Baby was measuring small at all scans and dropped several percentiles over the weeks, eventually stopping growing at 36 weeks. I was already booked in for a c section but at the final growth scan they brought the c section date forward and she was delivered at 37 weeks exactly, weighing 5lbs 3oz (1st percentile). She's now nearly 9 months old and is on the 45%ile!

I hope that reassures you a bit! I just took each scan as a positive opportunity to see baby. Part of me thought "maybe shes not that small as people keep saying the scans aren't always accurate", but in our case they were spot on, and were really helpful in getting our girl here safely :)

I've had two babies on the small side. DD1 was 5lb 12oz at 38w and DD2 was 6lbs 3oz at 39+3. Extra growth scans with them both. With both i had high pressure in one of my uterine arteries and with DD2 I had preeclampsia. Both are doing super well - DD1 is like 75th centile at nearly 4yo and is so tall! DD2 is plodding along the 25th centile at 1yo but also really long. It's definitely a worry when you are pregnant, but hopefully all will be well for you too.
