Ectopic or miscarriage?

Hello everyone

I am on my first round of IVF. Had a BFP a week ago but found out my hCG was low and have been told it’s a non viable pregnancy. They are watching me to see if I miscarry or it’s ectopic. I have had heavy period like bleeding for 2 days, but that could just be because I’ve stopped all my progesterone support.

These are my hCG numbers:
Monday 26
Wednesday 30
Friday 51
Saturday 80
Today (Monday) 54

Do you think I am miscarrying now that it’s dropped and I’m bleeding, or could this be ectopic? I’m so scared of it being ectopic. I am going back on Wednesday to see if it’s dropped again.

Hi, first I’m really sorry you’re going through this.
I’ve had two ectopics, I know how frightening it can be - please don’t panic your numbers are super low and even if it was ectopic your risk of rupture is low with those numbers.
usually when numbers go up and down they suspect ectopic but nothing is going to show on a scan with hcg so small so unfortunately it will be watch and wait for you to see if the numbers keep dropping.
The first time I was about 150 odd, numbers dropped had a bleed to about 40 odd but then they started going back up again. When it was back in the 200+ and after multiple scans and about 3 weeks of waiting I was so exhausted with it opted for a methotroxocate shot. The second time the numbers did a little rise but plummeted naturally and it passed.

Thank you so much and I’m so sorry for your losses. I’m praying with the bleed I have and the drop from 80 to 54 that I’ll drop again on Wednesday. Will just have to wait and see. Thank you so much xx

I also had 2 ectopics. I would go to your closest EPU to check if they can anything. For me both were on my left tube and needed a consultant to see them as they were so small.
