SO hungry

First trimester, can't stop eating. The second I feel remotely hungry, I feel dizzy and really nauseous. This happens every 2-3 hours. Trying to fill the gaps between meals with a piece of fruit/cup of milky tea, but my body just wants carbs. Help! I'm scared I'm going to put on loads of fat. Anyone else feel the same? Tips?

Going to make some peanut butter oat bars today for a healthy protein snack.

Please don’t restrict yourself. You’re growing a new human! I put 3 stones on during pregnancy and lost it all afterwards when breastfeeding.

I went through that this pregnancy (although not my first) and it lasted until well into the second trimester because I had awful reflux and surprisingly, eating helped ease discomfort. All I wanted was a Greggs baguette multiple times a day. I put on so much weight which I struggled with having lost loads in previous years but it's settled down now. I'm now 22 weeks, the carb and chocolate cravings have subsided and I'm actually really enjoying fruit and salad and eating normal amounts. Don't snack as often between meals and actually full before I'm finished my usual size portion. I quickly lost pregnancy weight breastfeeding the first time so hopefully do the same again.

This ^

I ate a lot more often than every 2-3 hours! Similarly, hunger made me feel more nauseous and/or likely to throw up.

6 months pp now, and I’m below my pre-baby weight, despite doing very little formal exercise and certainly not dieting!

Enjoy your pregnancy OP😊

I’m 20 weeks and currently finding my appetite so frustrating!
I get so full so quickly and fine after a small meal I am stuffed for ages, uncomfortably so, but then I suddenly switch from that to being absolutely RAVENOUS, to the point I feel sick with hunger. So I’m either constantly uncomfortably full or starving, and there’s no inbetween!

When pregnant with my second 20 years ago i couldn't stop eating.
I put on a good 3 stone probably more tbh.
I lost it all after he was born.

I had this in the first trimester. I'm 21 weeks now and I've put on about 1.5 stone.

It's quite a lot when I'm only at the halfway point, I know, but to be honest, I don't really think l could have done much differently. When your body is telling you that you're hungry, it is very hard to deny yourself, especially when you're pregnant.

My appetite has gone down a bit now (although I still have hungry days). That's just how it is. If you weren't overweight/ obese before pregnancy then you will most likely go back to more or less where you were once you've had the baby.

My body definitely feels big right now but I'm not too worried about it, this is a very short phase in life really. If I'm still this weight a year after pregnancy then I will start to be concerned and do something about it - but right now it's OK.

I'm also 20 weeks and finding this now! Previously in this pregnancy my big appetite didn't matter too much, I'd eat and feel fine. Now I'm still really hungry but if I eat too much feel like my stomach is going to pop. So trying to stick to smaller but frequent meals and snacks. Hard when my brain thinks I can and want to eat a huge meal.😂

When pregnant with twins I also ate everything in sight .

I was 1/2 stone lighter when they were born.

Dont over think it.

I was the same in my first trimester. I didn't get morning sickness but I would get nauseous and dizzy if I hadn't eaten enough. All I wanted was carbs and dairy. I spent half my time in McDonald's! I really wouldn't overthink it, eat when you need to and what you need/want to. I know there's a lot of pressure to "eat well" but you also need to think about your mental wellbeing and if eating carbs is going to both fill you up and make you feel satisfied/focused, just do it. I also don't know how much truth is in this, but some theories suggest cravings are linked to what your body needs, though this could be an old wive's tales/excuse!

I'm almost 30 weeks pregnant and still eating quite a lot, but my appetite is more normal now than it was in trimesters 1 & 2 (though still bigger than pre-pregnancy). I'm back to eating regular meals at normal times and the desire for fast food has (mostly) waned. Keep active and it shouldn't affect you and your weight too much. I go walking every day and move around a lot as part of my job, and other than my growing bump I haven't noticed any weight gain anywhere else, despite the extra calories!

anon1411 · 29/03/2025 13:43

This is me! I'm currently 9 weeks and I just cannot stop eating. Similarly to yourself, I don't have morning sickness but if I don't eat every couple of hours then I start feeling dizzy and sick 🤢
