Too many ultrasounds unsafe?

I've had 4 scans so far during my pregnancy.
I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant and have my 20 week scan in 2 weeks time but I just find the nhs scans gap so long and would just like to check on how baby is doing time to time but can having too many scans be unsafe for baby?

Don't worry - ultrasound is completely harmless xx

I think the only thing to just be cautious of is that if the scan shows up any problems it might be difficult for the person doing the scan to explain it to you properly depending on their level of experience. I think this varies quite widely between different ultrasound clinics.

It could also be really stressful if you then have to wait for the 20 week NHS scan before you can have a proper conversation about it. If you wait for the 20 week one you know you're guaranteed immediate NHS support if you need it.:)

I totally understand what you mean about the wait: It's really hard and pregnancy is such an anxious time! I just think be careful about having a private scan before your 20 week one. Really good luck :) xx

Having too many isn't an issue from a 'are they harmful physically' point of view. I had 2 private and about 10 NHS scans with my youngest.

Like the PP said I think you need to be caution about private scans. They are not all the same quality and they are not all trained to the same standard as the NHS. You also need to remember that at different stages different things can be seen and they are only a snapshot of that 5 mins in time. I'd be very wary relying on private scans.
