Postpartum hair loss - help!

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the best place to post, but DS is 3 months now and I've begun losing my hair. It happened with DD so I was expecting it, but once again it's fairly depressing. Sadly, my hairline is very badly affected with patches about two inches long that are almost bald. My antenatal mates were shocked the first time because their loss was so tame in comparison.

I basically suffered in silence last time, but this time I want to be a bit more proactive so it doesn't get me down so much! Does anyone know of any good products for hair loss (I'm breastfeeding so have to be mindful of that), and/or tips for encouraging fast regrowth?

Thanks!

Try and get a blood test. I had horrendous hair loss post partum and it was because I had no iron in my body!!!!! It took years for the GP to properly identify it. Get a blood test that includes iron levels and if your ferritin is anywhere near the bottom of the range (ask the GP for a print out), then you need to supplement.

If that's too much of a faff, or you think your GP won't be helpful, you can do a ferritin fingerprick tests via Boots and other pharmacies or via online suppliers like Medichecks.

Also ensure you are eating enough protein, particularly if you are breast feeding.

I don't think anything you apply topically will make any difference, although others may have different experiences.

Could be a gimmick and haven’t tried it myself but see a lot of people swear by rosemary oil for their scalp and massaging it in regularly. I don’t think it will stop the fall out of hair but more stimulates stronger/faster regrowth
