Hi all
I have been battling with HG for about 4 weeks now and been prescribed cyclizine which has massively helped with the nausea. I have gone from not being able to eat at all to only being able to stomach chocolate, bread and smiley faces 🙈 to say the least I feel unhealthy and pretty rubbish to be honest. I have been craving my pre pregnancy free soul vanilla protein powder smoothies but again as with the internet am getting very mixed messages in regards to protein powder in pregnancy. Can anyone help me with some sane and sensible advice i would love to be getting back on track with fruit and veg but everything knocks me to vomiting feel like a strawberry smoothie would be a dream right now. First time pregnancy and need an experienced mum or midwives advice x

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you’re feeling so rubbish. I use the organic whey protein powder unflavoured from the organic protein co. - I’ve been advised by a nutritionist that this is safe (and good) to use before and during pregnancy. 😊

I think a lot of the advice against protein powders is US based where food regulation is less strict and there is a risk of harmful substances. I just avoid those with additives that themselves are not recommended (caffeine, creatine etc) but do not see an issue with protein + flavouring + sweetener - in the end those are things present in other foods as well.

I’ve been having free soul choc powder nearly every day and so far so good!
