Am I right in thinking 39 weeks the benefit is you are getting paid for longer even though it would be less per month?

OMP can be anything the employer offers.

SMP is payablrle across 39 weeks.

I think OP is asking about stretching their OMP. So it sounds like employer offers OMP for the first 18 weeks of mat leave but she’s thinking about asking this to be split and paid over 39 weeks to guarantee an income for longer (albeit a smaller amount each month).

OP, I didn’t do this but it always makes sense to me and seems sensible. (And sorry if I’ve misunderstood!)

Hey..

Did you get an answer on this? I'm thinking of doing this but can't work out if its worth it.

My omp is 12w half pay over 12w or
12w half pay over 33 (plus 6w at 90 in beginnig)
