Have you tried diluting your urine with half water and dipping again? Just as there's something called the hook effect that happens to tests when the hcg rises beyond ehat they can cope with. The control line gets darker again and can be a worry, worth trying that before worrying too much as the test line was such a due stealer.

@Imisscoffee2021 thank you for answering, I’ve just been urinating on the sticks in the morning instead of dipping the stick in my urine. Maybe I’ll try that tomorrow morning instead. Thanks again ❤️

The hook effect would not be a factor at 13-18dpo, that’s more from 10 weeks of pregnancy onward.

It doesn’t look to me like the test line here is a dye stealer, the tests look to be the wrong way round so the line on the right hand side which if fluctuating is actually the test line?

YourOlivePanda · 25/03/2025 07:16

@Imisscoffee2021 yes, apologies the test is the wrong way round

@Mrsttcno1 That is very much not true. I got hook effect at 5 weeks pregnant and there’s only one baby in there.

@YourOlivePanda I would recommend getting blood tests done every 48h to see how hcg is rising. It might be the brand of tests being weird or nothing at all or it could indicate an ectopic.

LollyLand · 25/03/2025 07:25

A line is a line. Expecting a perfect gradient is silly.

YourOlivePanda · 25/03/2025 07:33

@YourOlivePanda yes I will be ringing EPU today. My twin sister had an eptopic few months back

@LollyLand ive had 4 chemicals and no successful pregnancies. I’m taking 400mgx2 of progesterone so if the line is fading I need to stop taking them for AF to start

To be clear, the hook effect is actually rare in pregnancy tests anyway but it can occur where your HCG levels are above 500,000mlU/mL. For reference in a typical pregnancy your HCG would peak at about 100,000 at 10 weeks pregnant, so it’s very unlikely to be hook effect.

I took a pregnancy test just to see how it looked the day I went to give birth to my daughter and still blaring positive. I’m now about 5 weeks pregnant with my second baby and took a test this morning after seeing this reply- still bright and glaring, dye stealer positive.

The hook effect IS very rare, and would not be the issue at 13-18dpo.

That said though there are so many things which can impact a pregnancy test line, how much water you’ve drank for example, and the tests weren’t designed to track progression.
