Growth scan

I am 31+4 in my pregnancy and was referred for a growth scan as bump was measuring small. Baby shows to be on 6th percentile which is really small. Both my husband and I are quite tall with no side of the family having small babies.
can anyone else say they’ve had the same and what the outcome was? Going to try to take more vitamins and eat more protein but looking for some advice or reassurance really x

Referred at 24 weeks due to small size. Scanned every two weeks from then until birth. Referred to fetal medicine as at 1st percentile at 32 weeks. Given steroids as possibly going to be induced at 34 weeks. Ended up being induced at 37 weeks baby 4lb 12 didn't need extra support tiny but perfect and home after 48 hours. Try not to worry being monitored is for the best.

So pleased for you that all turned out well! I think we were just a bit worried as it seems to have dipped off a little

I measured small (estimated to be under 4lbs)
Had extra monitoring 3x weekly plus extra scans
Baby showed growth but not a whole lot. I refused induction or c sec
Born spontaneously 3 days before due date at 6lb 3oz (second born was 6oz 12oz so I guess I just don't make big babies)
She was on 5th percentile for her weight even now at 8 she's slim and finally weighing over 20kg 😅

Mine was the other way round - predicted to be a lot bigger on a growth scan but born much smaller than expected 4 days later.
DD was absolutely fine but I've learned to take the scans with a pinch of salt with this pregnancy and prepare for every eventuality.

Hi @Joysofspring2 I came across your post and wondered how you are getting on now? I am in a similar position with 2nd baby measuring on 7th percentile at 31 weeks. Blood flow and fluid all normal and have another growth scan next week so hoping for a growth spurt. My hospital doesn’t have the best reputation, have to do a lot of my own research, nobody has even asked me about my diet or done any blood work since 28wks which I find strange but also trying to eat more/increase protein. Have you had any other additional tests?

@Echomama good to read your experience as they are already talking about possibility of induction at 38 wks (or earlier) which makes me feel uneasy. Any advice on refusing if it comes to it? Just want to be prepared as always feel rushed/intimidated.

Just stand your ground. They were verrryyy pushy.
I did feel like I had to accept having steroid injections in order to pacify them "just incase" I needed an emergency section. But I knew in my gut she would be fine. And obviously agree to the extra monitoring which wasn't an issue for me at the time.
Good luck to you and your scan next week!
I remember a lot of fuss being told they would only scan every 2 weeks other wise the growth they saw wasn't "viable" which I think is bs. But then them being very pushy for a section before they'd even done another scan. It was all just very single minded on getting baby out ASAP and not actually looking at the bigger picture which was, me and baby were fine and she was still growing if they bothered to actually look at her numbers and not just compare it to the "norms"

We have our 36 week growth scan on Tuesday. The last scan said baby had dropped to 4th percentile but again, both placenta and cord seemed to be doing the right thing. I also tested positive for strep b so it’s been a bit full on the past few weeks but I think next week we will meet the consultant and get a plan for the birth- they have mentioned inducing us at 37 weeks but not sure if I should elect for a C-section to avoid the extra stress of passing on strep b.

I was also strep b for both pregnancies
Ended up not getting it in time with dc1 as labour was too fast,
Ended up going extra early specifically pushing for antibiotics in time. Again, didn't get the full dose in time.
Both babies monitored for 8 hours post delivery with temp and blood sugar, both okay.
Do whatever makes you less stressed at the end of the day. Less stress for you is less stress for baby and better delivery.
Fingers crossed for you all goes smoothly!

Had scan today at 36 weeks and baby has gone from 4th percentile up to 12th so we are back on track as low risk. We have another scan in 2 weeks to make sure the growth is consistent.
