Bleeding on cyclogest pessaries

Hello,

For a bit of background I have an 11 month old little boy, our miracle baby following 11 miscarriages. Whilst pregnant with him I was taking cyclogest 400mg pessaries, I had no side effects to these at all. He was born with a smooth pregnancy and birth.

Well two weeks ago I found out I was pregnant again, however on Monday morning I woke up and when wiping there was brown/dark red blood. This lasted until around midday, but I called the hospital just to check. I was given an appointment in EPU on Tuesday, they found everything as it should, everything in the right place and a heartbeat. They placed me around 5-6 weeks.

I was then given cyclogest pessaries again, and sent on my way. Fast forward to Wednesday afternoon and the brown/dark red blood is back. Again only when wiping, and a slight amount in my underwear. No huge cramps, more twinges in my opinion. I have tried to call EPU again and left multiple messages but no one has got back to me.

Has anyone else experienced this at all.

Thanks!

Hi @Tryingfornumbertwo2 I’ve been on cyclogest since getting a positive test following 2 previous losses. I’ve had spotting while on them. I’ve had 1 scan so far that showed all was fine & no reason for the spotting. I’m only 9 weeks so still a way to go until I’m out the clear, but just wanted to share. I hope all goes well for you

I think this's is really common with Cyclogest, my consultant advised using it rectally so it doesn’t irritate the cervix- she also said this would reduce the chance of cystitis/UTI which I’m quite prone to. Took a few days to get used to but 4 weeks in of using this method and everything all ok so far!

I also had spotting whilst on cyclogest pessaries at a similar pregnancy stage to you. I panicked and was convinced it was the worst outcome. But was seen for an early scan and everything was just fine. Pregnancy progressed smoothly from then on. I hope this helps. Congratulations on your pregnancy ❤️

Hello!

Thank you for your responses. I woke up in the middle of the night and went to the toilet, there was red when I wiped but nothing actually heavy. This morning there is the tiniest amount of brown upon wiping.

i started using the pessaries racially on Wednesday night, but am unsure if they can still cause bleeding.

Im tempted to try ringing the EPU again today, but I feel like I’m kind of getting on their nerves.

Just an update for anyone that might read this post in future and be going through the same thing.

The bleeding has still continued every day since I last posted, not all day but definitely daily. I visited EPU today for another scan as I had small brown clots and cramping. Baby was seen on screen with a little flickering heartbeat going strong. The specialist nurse said that bleeding could last up until 12 weeks, and to just look out for heavy bleeding and cramping.

So just a waiting game until the 12 week scan.

I'm glad that you were seen OP, and they were able to help put your mind at rest. It's just another thing to try not to worry about isn't it? But it's good news on the whole👍congrats again 😊

@Tryingfornumbertwo2 hey just to say I’m having the same thing. I’ve been using rectally but had 2 instances of red spotting at 6 and 7 weeks.
8w scan (all good) this week - clinic didn’t know what was causing it but could see a small old bleed by my lining but nothing else.
literally 5 hours after the scan I had bright/dark red spotting which lasted all night. Not heavy but enough to mark a pad. It went the following morning and now I’ve just had some brown.
I do have a fibroid on my cervix so really hoping it’s just this, no other scans now until 12 weeks - going to be torture waiting x
