Hi Everyone, FTM and so happy. According to nhs calculator and my flow app I am around 8 weeks, first midwife appointment next week but yday I started to experience brown when I wipe, the one I wiped was very pale pink but gone back brown today. I am obviously terrified. I have text my midwife whom I have not met yet but she has not got back to me. Google has been my worst enemy and made me worry more because some people say it is normal and others say this is how MC started. Any advise please x

I wish I could give you a definitive answer - early pregnancy is so hard. I've had spotting on both my pregnancies, but more so on my first one. I had brownish-red at 4 weeks, brown at 6 weeks and brown at 9 weeks. My son from that pregnancy is now a hardy 2 and a half year old. On this pregnancy I had spotting around 4 weeks and then pink on wiping at around 6 weeks, I'm 20 weeks now. I've been very lucky and it's been normal for me, and for many, many other women I know.

Do you have an EPU you can attend so they can do a scan? That's what I would do if I was worried at that gestation.

First trimester is such a trying time. I had bright red bleed followed by brown spotting at 8+5. I had a scan at 9+5 and everything was fine. The bleed was unrelated to baby and the pregnancy but couldn’t find the source. I’ve still been having brown spotting since the initial bleed but have been reassured that if it’s brown, it’s old blood. I would contact your EPU and go from there x

Thanks both yeah it's tough I have been thriving until this point and I know it can be extremely common to have spotting ect. I will try not to worry too much as long as it remains brown . It's all very new so even finding out who to contact is hard work lol! Not sure about an EPU I will have a look on my lunch break as I don't think my midwife is too interested yet as I haven't heard back from her. I know a MC is also very common but I can't believe how little support there is until around 9 weeks and you get your first midwife app x

Glad you've got a scan booked in. I had to go for mine alone as well as we didn't have alternative childcare so my husband stayed with our toddler. Is the brown spotting any heavier? If it's just when you wipe, it could just be that through bearing down, it's dislodged some old blood.

It's calmed down a lot now it was a lot more prominent attached a pic sorry it's abit grim - this is from my first wee and wipe this morning - it was a darker brown yesterday but seems to be slowly disappearing, not heavy enough to have to wear a pad only when I have a wee xx

I wish I could reassure you because pregnancy is such a headfuck right? Ive had 4 pregnancies, one live birth, two miscarriages, currently 12 weeks. I've had bleeding in them all, some bright red like a tap pouring, and loooooooads of brown blood like youre describing. My two miscarriages, it started as red blood with pain and just got worse. With my healthy pregnancies, brown blood and red but no pain/just gentle cramping, and came and went, whereas miscarriage just continued and got worse. I'm glad you've booked an early scan, no point telling you not to worry but lots and lots of people have bleeding that is totally fine in the end x

Not good news I'm afraid, I am defiantly miscarrying I believe. Passed a clot this morning with dodgy looking colour in - very fortunate that this is this first time it's happened as me and my partner fell pregnant the first time ttc, I will let my body do its thing and go for my early scan as planned to confirm everything then we go again. I am gutted but even more so for my partner I will never forget the happiness in his face when we got that positive test it's devastating really xxxx

@b29xearly birthday is full of worry. Yes you may be miscarrying with the clot, you may not be. A lot of pregnancies have an internal bleed called a sub chorionic hematoma which gets reabsorbed by 12 weeks, for some people or comes out. I had brown discharge, and a brown jelly like clot, on and off and my pregnancy ended up being successful.

Miscarriage would typically come with red blood/ cramping etc. I'm not saying everything is definitely okay, but I wouldn't count yourself out yet! X

It sure is, it would be my first so everything is so new. I think I'm preparing for the worst but bodys are strange wonderful things so you never know - I will monitor it over the next few days but lucky I have a scan Thursday so I don't have to go through the rigmarole of organising all that- plenty of rest over the weekend. It's not a constant flow so you never know, you get so much conflicting information online because everyone has such different experiences don't they- not in pain just abit of a dull ache in my lower back I've had no cramping of such so we will ride it out and see how it goes xxxx
