I have worked for my company for 10 years. Its a small company with 8 employees (I am the only female employee) our boss has never given any of us a contract.
I informed my boss straight away when i found out i was expecting (4 weeks) I am now 23 weeks and he just isnt taking the fact that i am pregnant seriously. The business has industrial print machines, and he hasnt even carried out a risk assesment. He had a very informal meeting with me about being pregnant a couple of weeks ago, to which basically he said, i dont know what im expected to do, ive never had a member of staff get pregnant before. He keeps claiming he is employing a HR company to give us contracts, and they have instrusted him that he needs to carry out a risk assesment and let me know what the maternity policy is, to which he still hasnt done. Will he have to pay me SMP whilst i am off or not with me not having a contract?
The busness is in a not very nice area, and i am alone for the first 1-2 hours of every day. I am still expected to carry on my role as normal (which some of it requires me to be down in the print room around the machines, lifting, carrying etc) The whole building is untidy with trip hazards, so i have to be on high alert all the time, and generally feel unsafe, and like my boss doesnt care.
I have tried to speak to my boss but when he is in the office he 'doesnt have time' to speak to me properly, or implement any of the legal requirements.
Can anyone give me any advice on where i stand with him not following procedure as he should? Its really starting to get me down.
