Cocodamol and Pregnancy

I have been worrying about taking cocodomal while pregnant. Iv not really got a choice since it’s the only thing to make the pain (sciatica) manageable. Iv been on roughly 180 mg a day since 12 weeks (currently 20) I just wanted to hear anyone’s experiences of being of cocodamol longer term, and specifically those who have since given birth! I know it’s technically ‘ok’ to take but still there’s still risks and I’m aware taking it towards the end of pregnancy can cause respiratory problems once born (hoping not to be on them then!) any experience (good or bad) would be welcomed. Just so I’m not feeling im the only one taking opioids whilst pregnant.
thank you in advance 🙂

You need to speak to a medical professional.

I should have specified they have been prescribed by a doctor….who has plied me with the generic ‘it’s usually fine, but try not to take it nearing the end of pregnancy’ which is only mildly reassuring…
so personal experiences is what I was ideally hoping for.

Ask for a second opinion, a review with pain clinic or speak to a pharmacist.

I was prescribed it by my GP for migraines when pg.
I used to try everything else first but sometimes it was the only thing that worked.
DD was fine

It's not ideal but if it's the only thing that works then it is what it is. Have you tried any non medicinal approaches like osteopathy to relieve your symptoms? Might make the pain more manageable a require less cocodamol

I’m having physio and will look and other non-medicinal approaches too . Thank you

I was offered this as pain relief for issues I had while pregnant with my daughter and after doing my own research and speaking with my midwife & GP decided against it. I wasn’t comfortable with the risks and decided to persevere, taking cocodamol daily isn’t even advised when not pregnant so pregnant wasn’t something I wanted to gamble with.

Hi OP can I ask how it’s going for you? Xx
