Spicy food, sex, exercise, fresh pineapple, raspberry leaf tea, nipple simulation, curb walking....... something else.......

Did anything actually work for you?

Yeh pineapple worked for me first time (tinned not fresh). Didn't work second time though.

Clary sage essential oil is known to bring on labour.

tiredmumma8696 · 12/03/2025 16:16

Reflexology worked for me. Baby was born 12 hours after the treatment.

WhiteOrca · 12/03/2025 16:27

Yes. We had sex the morning that I was 38+6. My waters broke just a few hours later. Could be coincidence, ofc!

scrivette · 12/03/2025 16:33

Fresh pineapple and running to the carpark because my ticket was about to expire worked for me. (I don't recommend the running!)

TTCRainbow · 12/03/2025 19:21

clary sage oil, have a lovely warm/hot relaxing bath with it!

brambles89 · 12/03/2025 19:24

Sex worked both times for me and hope it’ll work this time too!

menopausalmare · 12/03/2025 19:27

A gloved finger (sweep).

Spitspot99 · 12/03/2025 19:27

Walk up a hill! My farmer Grandpa used to swear by it to get his cows to calve and it worked for me with my DS 😁

Marmite27 · 12/03/2025 19:28

I burst my waters coughing. It’s probably too late to catch a dose for that to be effective though.

Labour didn’t start until 12 hours later, so not particularly efficient either!

Dolambslikemintsauce · 12/03/2025 19:30

Vacuum the whole house.. As vigorous as you can manage.. Worked for me more than a few times..
Or plan a trip away..
That also worked for me.

Being determined to work right up to my due date so I could properly handover to my replacement at work. (And also maximise time off after!)
Not a chance 🤣

MrsPringledusts · 12/03/2025 19:40

I was overdue and so fed up that I went to the pub with my partner, had a row with a person who asked where the baby was, and stamped off home in a temper - next morning - off to hospital in labour!

2025willbemytime · 12/03/2025 19:43

With my second baby a walk, curry and then rhubarb and custard followed by another walk the next afternoon and more custard the next night, worked. She was six days late at this point.

biscuitcat · 12/03/2025 19:45

Sex with the first two! Currently trying to coax number three out and nothing has done the trick so far, little so and so is too comfy...

Loved reading these, thank you all for responding.

My lovely then toddler came home from nursery with norovirus - sorted me out with my 3rd, she shot out like a missile at 35 weeks. I don't recommend though, it was fairly grim lying there not knowing what part of my lower body was going to eject something Hmm

Nothing works.

I can never work out how people decide the causal link either.

I had custard and labour started 12hrs later. I had cross words and it started the next day. I had sex. I hoovered. And so on.

Why not 'I had granola' or 'I looked at a horse whilst wearing a fedora'.

Nothing actually works according to research.

Being heavily pregnant will likely do it.

It's a bit of fun, don't take life so seriously.

The very title of the threat is about 'old wives tales' not scientifically proven links

Have you tried scalini’s aubergine Parmesan recipe ? It didn’t work for me but it was fun to try anyway!

What colour was the fedora though?

I feel like that's an important nugget of information.

That's a new one for me, had to Google it!

Due date came and went. Tried everything you've all mentioned, nothing. Ten days later sat on a boat all day while husband varnished lots of wood, glorious June day, lolling in the sun gently rocking in the river. Bag of chips on the quay. Came home, warm bath for backache. 10 PM, first contraction. Went to bed dozing between contractions. Around 5am woke husband said I think we should go now. Took another six hours at the hospital.

I gave up after that, just cracked on with the next two. Stayed at home with the third for the first twelve hours, stuck in traffic. Arrived too late for any painkillers. Was the easiest birth ironically.

manicm0nday · 13/03/2025 18:38

With my first I had the aubergine parmesan 5 nights in a row and no baby 😅 went into labour after a relaxing day but I was 13 days overdue so would have happened soon anyway. With my second I had to be induced at 10 days over as I developed very severe pre-eclampsia but I’d been trying all the old wives tales for 10 days and nothing…was a quick induction though, only 6 hours and was already 4cm so just had waters broken. Technically the 10’days of trying EVERYTHING might have worked but ultimately I could have just been very ready anyway.

TaraRhu · 13/03/2025 18:41

Nothing. I think giving up worked . I'd given up hope and then he came the next day. 2 came out swiftly with a sweep -6 h later.

323skye · 13/03/2025 18:46

Tried it all nothing worked, still 2 weeks overdue and induced!🥲
