Fetal growth a week behind at 6+5 (date is correct), is it game over?

Had an early viability scan today and HB was fine but there was a discrepancy between sac and fetus.

The sac measured correctly for 6+5 but from the size of the fetus she dated it 5+6.

She booked me a follow up but said not to worry because I might have ovulated later than I thought.

On the way home I realised that date couldn't possibly be right because we weren't shagging due to a bad case of thrush! If I ovulated on the day she said then there's just no way a sperm could have been alive in there.

So the fetus is definitely lagging behind.

Has anyone had this - with certainty about their dates - and been ok?

The fact you saw a HB is a great sign. It's not uncommon for measurements to be out at this stage as they're literally dealing in fractions of millimetres.
That's why you don't get an official due date until 12 weeks.

Good luck with the follow up

Thank you @sel2223. I just spoke to an early pregnancy specialist and she said it's not necessarily a problem, they can be that far behind and catch up. I feel much better

I'm not an expert, but I think the heartbeat is the main thing, isn't it?

As pp said, it's all dealing in fractions of mm at the moment.

Even late on in pregnancy is often guesswork just how big they are. I have friends who have been induced or had c sections due to the baby 'measuring large", only to come out and be completely normal sized or even smaller.

I know the waiting is hard, but it's really all you can do at the moment.

Ive had this with all my pregnancies. Always been a week behind the dates I have myself.

My measurements at a 6/7 week scan were 5 days different to the measurements by the time I had my 12 week dating scan.

I've had this twice with one good outcome, one bad (did get to heartbeat but then stopped shortly after). Definitely sure on dates as one was IVF and the other ovulation drugs with monitoring. My good outcome is currently asleep on me. I think she was either 6 or 7 days behind at the first scan and she very slowly caught up over the next scans (I had them once a fortnight). Good luck.
