Private Cord Banking

Hiya, would love to hear from anyone who considered or opted to have private cording. This is our first baby and I'm considering banking as my husband had Hodgkins Lymphoma in his early 20s. He was lucky enough to only need four months of chemo and has been cancer free for 13 years but I worry that this may leave our baby more susceptible to blood cancers or diseases.

Obviously the price is a huge consideration, especially for a 'just in case' measure and after spending thousands of our own and our family's money conceiving baby through IVF, it feels like a stretch too far. Another consideration is that my husband and I are both white of English and Celtic heritage (me Irish and him Scottish) which I believe makes it more likely that the cord cells wouldn't be needed (happy to stand corrected on this).

What was your decision and why?
If you did bank, what option did you go for?
What are your thoughts of our own situation?

TIA

Is there any evidence these can be used? I thought it was just in case future medical advances were made. Think it's a waste.

Yes, the stem cells from cord blood are currently being used in treatments. I wonder if you are confusing this with something else?
