Quitting my job whilst on maternity leave?!

Will I still be entitled to my remaining SMP if I quit my job whilst on maternity leave?

Surely you quit once you have finished maternity leave and then taken all you accrued holidays

Yes you will be entitled - once you have passed the qualification date and have fulfilled the other criteria you are entitled to SMP.

Your holiday will continue to accrue while you are employed so unless you want to end your maternity leave early it would be better for you just to give whatever notice you have to give under your contract to expire at the end of your maternity leave period so you get those extra days paid out!

Yes you will, I would advise you not to quit until you absolutely need to. Things can change so much in a year and if you still want to quit, no harm done.

Take it from me - I planned to quit twice and ended up wanting to go back both times

There are some underlying issues as to why I want to quit now rather then wait until the end of my maternity - waiting until the end isn’t an option for me unfortunately otherwise I would do that

I would just check that you don't have to pay back any maternity leave pay. I think in some places you have to return to work for say 3 months after to not have to pay it back!
