Can't see a baby at early viability scan... is it all over?

My own dates put me at 7wks 3 days (I know exactly when I ovulated), sonographer only measured 6 weeks 6 days and couldn't see a baby only sac and yolk. Have another scan this time next week but it's not hopeful is it?

I still have pregnancy symptoms... started feeling sick last friday.

It could easily have taken longer for the fertilised egg to travel down falloppian tubes and implant - it tends to take between 7-10 days but some are quicker and some are longer.

Persisting symptoms sound good, so I hope you get the reassurance you need next week

Gordon the worry must be awful, like reachoutsays its impossible to know exactly when your baby implanted.
I am 7+1 (again by my dates) and have a scan tomorrow so I hope our paths will cross again!
good luck

Thanks guys. Am feeling really sick but that's probably mainly worry. Will keep you posted.

Gordon - 4 daya out is a matter of about 1mm growth at that age. The scan machines are not that exact at all and another technician or machine could easily have got a slightly different measurement. Did the sonographer seem concerned?

I had a scan last week where I measued 8+3 despite knowing when I ovulated and had sex and therefore calculating myself to be 9 weeks exactly.

I had a similar thing actually, had 2 weekly scans for a while because of it. I think I was 8 weeks by the time they found a heartbeat and they changed my dates, putting me back by 9 days which caused me a lot of anxiety as I knew when I'd conceived! Anyway DD was born a week early by their date and a couple of days late by mine. She was 8.3 so I like to think I was right! Good luck, I remember how horrible it felt having to wait.

GordontheGopher · 12/05/2008 13:56

No she wasn't worried at all - said she saw that kind of thing all the time. I just hate the wait - this week is going to drag!

I had a scan with both mine at 5/6 weeks and only had the sac and yolk mine are 4 and 1 now .

If the sonographer was not worried then I really wouldn't stress about it. I think it is very normal for babies to vary in size, look how different they all measure later on. It is also perfectly normal not to be able to find a heartbeat in early pregnancy. If you are feeling sick then that is a good sign that your pregnancy hormones are high. You have had no spotting or anything have you? Really it all sounds very normal.

i have 2 mates who had the exact same thing when they ent back for scan there was strong heart beat in a little blob there both now 16wks (coincidence i know) and all is well, good luck try to keep positive

GTG, My last pregnancy I was utterly convinced that I was 12 weeks when I found out. In my mind there was no way I could have been any less, but when I had my scan I was put at 7 weeks.

like everyone says there are three variables; how long it took for implantation, scanning equipment and operator skill. any one of them could account for the disparity at this stage, but when you've got all three...

it's tough, this bit, eh? keep your head down and pray, that's all you can do. i hope it's all boringly normal from here on in.
