Overdue and so upset

5 days overdue. I’ve had 2 babies before and was never this overdue.

I’ve had 2 sweeps. Last one being yesterday and the midwife was really positive but nothing has happened!!

According to midwife, 3cm, fully effaced (although not that sure what that means!) and baby is 4/5 engaged. She said my waters were bulging

I’ve lost my mucus plug on Wednesday.

i had contractions for 3 hours after the sweep and now nothing.

any positive stories of similar and birth actually starting without induction??

I was 10 days overdue will all 3 of mine .... they arrived in.the end!

Ferrazzuoli · 07/03/2025 05:15

I was 8 days late with DC1 and 7 days late with DC2. Feeling your pain OP as I was climbing walls for those last few days! But both times labour started spontaneously in the end. Good luck.

Mumof2girls2121 · 07/03/2025 05:43

12 days over with DD1 no induction birth fine no intervention
8 days over DD2 with induction awful experience
i feel your pain, it’s horrible being overdue.
put me off having anymore!

It's a strange idea if you think about it that the exact date a baby is due can be predicted. They are all so different and grow at different rates.

If there are no other complications or worries, I would refuse an induction and let the baby come when ready.

sorchanim · 07/03/2025 12:37

I went 9 days over and she came all on her own. I had an induction booked for 42 weeks and would have been happy to have baby out at that point, but I was willing to wait until 41+6 for her to come along on her own.
Try a bit of nipple stimulation to get the oxytocin going ;)

Hrf1503 · 07/03/2025 21:15

You’re only 5 days over OP (doesn’t feel like and “only” I know). You still have plenty of time to go into spontaneous labour before they really push induction. So frustrating I know, lots of walking and distracting yourself.

I went 9 days over, and was literally showing no signs of labour at all until my contractions started. Hope they come soon, come back and update us :)

It doesn’t sound like you’ll need an induction. I bet you go into labour tonight.

Waitingwaitingwaiting33 · 08/03/2025 21:26

Thanks everyone, still no baby.

I have had more of a show but that’s it!

I’ve just eaten a hot curry so fingers crossed 😭

I was always overdue. With my last I was advised that eating fresh pineapple could help. I ate a massive bowl and that evening my waters broke as I got into bed. They had never broken spontaneously with the other 3 births. I also found walking helped a lot to move things on. It sounds like you are really close though so good luck!

Thank you! Will get a pineapple if nothing happens tonight

If you're really worried and they have space there's a chance they may break your waters. I had my second baby 4hrs after they did this (needed peoperly inducting with my first)

RandomMess · 08/03/2025 21:38

Be warned when it starts it's likely going to be very quick.

I went way overdue every time which meant I just announced 42 weeks as my due date with the last one.

Candledrip · 08/03/2025 21:41

OP a due date isn’t an eviction notice and I mean that kindly. All babies and pregnancies are different. Anecdotally (and from experience) a sweep followed by sex (sorry) is probably the best tried and tested method

Squigglewigglediggle · 08/03/2025 21:44

14 days overdue with my first which did end in induction. (Honestly, it wasn't that bad in the grand scheme of things), 10 days over with my second and had a lovely planned homebirth. No science in it but I ate a massive slice of chocolate cake before my contractions started so I fully recommend that! I remember the frustration well. Hope you go naturally soon OP.

Waitingwaitingwaiting33 · 09/03/2025 19:13

i had an induction with my first and it was horrendous 🫣. 52 hours and ended in a c section, haemorrhage, sepsis and 3 weeks in ICU. Trying to do everything I can to avoid induction 🤞🏻

I’ve walked 3 miles today, eaten a seriously spicy curry and pineapple!

I’ve got another app on Tuesday so fingers crossed something happens!

Perhaps consider straight to section if things don't get going themselves?

BodeAkuna · 10/03/2025 08:24

Any joy?

Waitingwaitingwaiting33 · 11/03/2025 10:01

She was born yesterday! 9 pounds and labour lasted 17 mins 😂😂😂🫣

I did have a third degree tear but she did fly out so only to be expected really!
