OGTT invalidated? - had rennies

So I’m supposed to have the oral glucose test in morning at 9:45am. I haven’t technically eaten food since 8pm, and been on water since 9pm, however I had horrendous acid reflux so I needed rennies. I took these one each time at 10pm, midnight, 2am. Not sugar free, just the peppermint chewable tablets.

Do you think I will need to rearrange the test? How I even go about this I don’t know, no one ever picks up the phone.

To be honest I take 10 rennies a day now and it’s really bad acid reflux. When I have a rennies it helps for a few hours and then it’s back to the horrible taste in my throat and burning sensation. I’m 33 weeks if it helps, it was never this bad with my son only at night if laid on my rhs and I didn’t take anything. This time it doesn’t matter, any food even a nibble and it’s set off.

Not sure, but I'd turn up to your appointment and just say what you've taken. My midwife was very relaxed about things like this, probably depends on your risk.

But on the acid reflux, try some gaviscon advance liquid. I found it was way more effective than rennies (or even the gaviscon advance tablets). If that doesn't help enough, your gp can prescribe you something. Sympathies, pregnancy reflux is awful

I'd turn up and explain that you had 2 Rennie's at 2am.

Try not to have any more between now and your test, you've still had almost 8hrs without food.

Nursemumma92 · 07/03/2025 07:16

Yes just go and say what you've taken.
I would also contact your GP about a prescription for omeprazole if your reflux is that bad- I did for my second DD as it was just horrendous and it was amazing!

I will go and see what she says. I wouldn’t really reach them on the phone so even if it has to be rearranged I could ask her to do that while I’m there. Thankyou.

I keep to the 10 limit a day but maybe even if she says to rearrange I could ask for advice about it so I don’t end up doing the same thing again. I will have to have a very light dinner next time and earlier so the last rennies can be at ~10pm and hopefully be enough.

@Nursemumma92 can a midwife prescribe it or ask for a doctor to prescribe it do you know? If not I can put a form in to my gp. I am going through a box of rennies a week and it is eventually working but they are quite short lasting and sometimes it can take 2-3 over a short period to fully work.

If they take you 15 minutes late you will have fasted for the required time anyway.
Definitely get omezaprole, you are almost at the dailly limit for rennies and you aren't at the end of the pregnancy.

The midwife told me it was better to rearrange, so it’s on Monday now. I also contacted my gp and I have omeprazole so I will see how that goes.
