Enlarged bladder

Hi,

We had our 12 week scan last week and it showed an enlarged bladder. We got quite nervous especially after reading things online.

We had our follow up yesterday with a fetal care specialist, which was 6 days later. The longest 6 days of my life. Everything was absolutely fine.

It must have been a delayed voiding cycle and everything was growing well.

Just posting this for people like myself who can’t help themselves researching and seeing experiences in forums. There isn’t of good information out there. The forum stories are mixed but most times this issue resolves positively ie transient enlargement.

Take care all!

I’m in the same position have you had a scan since is baby still ok ? I had a scan on the 3rd April baby was fine then had a scan on the 17 th April were baby had an enlarged bladder . The wait over bank holiday is a nightmare x hope alls well your end

Hi we have had two follow ups (one nhs and private just for reassurance) - everything was fine both times and things are progressing well. No issues seen with bladder since.

Our first scan at 11 weeks was fine (private and had nipt done) and then nhs at 13 had enlarged bladder. All follow ups were fine.

How many weeks were you on first and second scan? Do you remember the measurement of bladder?

We were told in the overwhelming majority of cases it resolves itself especially if the scans were short. A voiding cycle can be around 45 mins. If you are low risk on combined screening or nipt then even more likely.

Sending good wishes and prayers your way.

I had a scan on the 3rd April which would have been 10 weeks then had one on the 17 measuring 11weeks 6 days . Measurements are 11.7 mm x 6.5 mm the bladder wasn’t enlarged on the 3rd of April so total shock .

so glad yours has gone down as the internet makes things look very bleak for baby’s with this issue

Unfortunately people mostly post on bad news or don’t come back to update on good.

If you look at the medical literature c. 90% of cases resolve on their own, with the sizing you had.

I think it was a good sign it wasn’t visible on first scan also.

Best wishes!
