GD test - how did you feel before and after?

Just being nosey and impatient here!

I've just had my test and felt fine before and after. But they've told me I will only hear the results if I have GD, and that could be any time before Saturday...so I'm wondering if you had GD if you felt dizzy before/after? Were there any signs?

(Feel a little bit like it's sod's law I have it, purely because it's my birthday on Sunday and DH has promised to take me out for a nice dinner and a bit of birthday cake. 🥲)

Anyone else just waiting for results?

I’m not that far, I have it on Friday. So just listening in.

Im not entirely sure why I’m having it, I’m 33 weeks and the consultant decided to put me in for it. Saying all that I have just suddenly started needing to drink a lot of water at night and been really thirsty (I didn’t tell the consultant because it started the night after I spoke to them).

Would the dizziness be due to the fasting for 10+ hrs? If it’s new for you that is.

I have occassional dizziness since I was 18 weeks but I put it down to low bp, or low iron, or my thyroid. They all seam to cover that. Nothing has fixed it so far.

Hope it goes okay for you @Blue2020!

I didn't feel dizzy, just looking for signs I passed or failed. 😬 Just having a small freak out because I drank a bit of water during the test. They didn't tell me not to but hope this doesn't void it...

I have 34.1 BMI which is why I'm having it, but I don't have any other symptoms. Sometimes I'm a bit thirsty, so I drink and pre more - other days I'm absolutely fine but forget to drink enough and don't need to pee as often. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m also listening in as I have mine tomorrow due to baby being big and raised fluid around him… I’m 32 weeks on Monday and I’m dreading having the test done😂

I've had it done twice, negative both times. Adding my experience if it helps.

First time was because my mum has diabetes so I had the test. The drink made me feel really nauseous and a bit woozy. You can drink water during the test and walk around if you need to, but at my hospital they don't like you to stray too far from the waiting room, so they can keep an eye on you. Results came back totally normal.

Second time at 35 weeks I had it because there was glucose in my urine, so my midwife sent me for a retest. Same as first one, feel a bit sicky after the drink (and very uncomfortable on the plastic waiting chairs!) again results came back normal. They showed in my badger app by the following morning.

Had a growth scan at 36 weeks and baby is 80th percentile so they were discussing sending me for another gtt, but as my more recent results were only a few days ago they decided against it.

Edited to add, it's 75g (I think) of glucose in a short time, so like eating fat too many haribos at once!! That would definitely make me feel sicky!

I had mine this morning! I felt fine before, only got sent to have it because my Dad has diabetes (I'm 26 weeks today).

I've felt exhausted and a little groggy ever since getting home from the test. I'm assuming that's normal?! Hoping it'll all be fine.

Fingers crossed yours is negative too!

Beccaa123 · 05/03/2025 15:41

I had mine a few weeks a go and it was positive, no signs from the test itself, it's just drinking a lot of sugar essentially and having some bloods.
The drink wasn't as bad as everyone makes out, well for me anyway.

I felt fine before and after my test and I did end up having GD albeit just diet controlled

mrsed1987 · 05/03/2025 16:32

I've had it both pregnancies felt the same both times - first time I didn't have it, second time I did!

I was diagnosed 2 days before my sons 5th birthday party 😂 no cake for me!

2020N · 05/03/2025 20:10

I had my test on Wednesday and results came back positive yesterday. I felt a little lightheaded during the 2 hour wait and felt progressively more tired, and after I gave the second blood test I started to get a headache. I slept for a few hours after eating my lunch and felt a little spaced out for a few hours afterwards too. I found the drink okay, just sugary, and I don’t mind having bloods taken so that was all fine.

I have my first meeting in the morning at the hospital to find out more and make a plan with the dietician. It’s all been very quick!

Hopefully your results will be negative, sending luck your way!

Thanks everyone! Maybe it really is a wait-and-see thing. Praying they don't call me today or tomorrow 🙃 (Selfishly, I wish they'd call either way - if they know this morning I definitely don't have it, it's cruel to make me wait until Saturday!)

I can't really remember it with my first pregnancy (due to large abdominal measurements on scan) but with my second pregnancy had the same measurements and my dad had been diagnosed with diabetes. I felt absolutely awful, flu like, shivering, worse than when I got nurovirus while pregnant. And it came back negative both times. So with my current pregnancy I'm refusing. Particularly as my dad's lifestyle choices (overeating etc) do not affect my diet at all.
