Yesterday on my 47th birthday I took a pregnancy test "just to rule it out" as I had waited a while for my period to turn up thinking it was the start of peri. And... it was positive with weeks indicator saying 3+ (so no chance of the false positive menopause thing, the level of hCG is far too high). Never been pregnant before.

It's quite a shock, although not an accident. I had pretty much resigned myself to being childless but still held out some hope. Long story short, I thought I didn't want kids, until I met my current partner a few years ago and changed my mind. We've been TTC on and off thinking it was probably too late.

It would be good to hear from other expectant mothers in late 40s - first time or otherwise - just to know you're there really, cos it's all feeling totally surreal right now!

Congratulations OP

I was younger I had DCs at 36, 38 and 42. I found my last was by far the easiest pregnancy even though I was going through a lot of stress in my personal life. I found my pregnancy kept me grounded and calm.

The best advice I can offer is, don’t stress about things you can’t control and make sure you control the things you can. Know what you want and don’t let anyone push you around or put pressure on you. You will get lots of unsolicited advice dont take it personally, you do what you feel is best for you.

@noraheggerty don’t be too downhearted yet!
I had some early bleeding, first scan only gestational sac and yolk sac visible, second scan measuring 6-7wks and I knew exactly when I ovulated, I was 7+4, rescanned 2wks later and bang on dates at 9+5!

They are so incredibly tiny at this gestation it’s 0.something of a mm that makes a difference in dates!

Keeping everything crossed for you!

Just spoke with early pregnancy specialist and apparently it's not such a bad sign as I thought.

I need to do something to manage my anxiety I think

That’s great OP. Those early weeks are very nerve wracking. Take it one day at a time. My symptoms really came and went during both my pregnancies. Hope you have a follow up scan booked and everything crossed it’s looking on track 🤞🏼
