Aspirin in Early Pregnancy

Hi,

I had a baby in 2019 that was growth restricted and i was put on aspirin (75mg) from week 12 at UCLH hospital.

i was asking around at the time if i was to have a second one would i need asiprin again and dosage and when from? i was told by different people 150mg and you could take from point of positive test.

I have now received a positive test 5 years later - how do i get it confirmed and by whom what dosage i should and when from? as i think i should take it now but want to get it checked first.

Any one had a similar experience?

thank you

I took it from early on due to my first having a low birth weight, previous pre-eclampsia and advanced maternal age.

I was overseas though so saw an obstetrician early on who prescribed it. Not sure who you would ask early on in the UK - GP maybe? Midwife unit?

I also took it with my first due to my mum having preeclampsia. I was given it at my 9/10 week midwife appointment and took it throughout. Could you contact your GP in the meantime to confirm the dosage? I was actually wondering the same on second pregnancies if you've previously taken it. Curious to hear the answer when you get it x

It won't do any harm to start taking it at 75 or 150mg, whatever you're comfortable with.

You can confirm it by speaking to your midwife/ obstetrician.

I had my baby 3 weeks ago. I took 75mg in the evening daily from week 12 and was told to stop at week 35. My OB was a senior consultant on at UCLH.

The usual dose is 75mg per day. I am taking it now.

Some studies and midwives suggest taking it at night to maximise absorption. But won’t matter too much.

No downside risk to 75mg per day in early pregnancy.

@mummytrex - was this your first or second baby?

2nd successful pregnancy.

On 1st successful pregnancy. Daughter came at 24w.

I took 150mg daily from positive home test. It was during Covid and I'd had 3 previous mc. I just did the research myself as Covid meant my recurrant mc clinic appointment was cancelled. I read all ivf pregnancies are recommended to take it so felt it was worth a go for me.

I think I took it after my first booking app but it might have been after the 12 week scan. My first was premmie and a really good weight considering he was 2 months early so I'm not sure why they wanted me to take it but I did when they told me to not before, I'm sure it will do no harm to take it now but I would wait until your first midwife app.
