Ondansetron safe? Worried as the doctor has refused to prescribe more?

I was prescribed these a couple of weeks ago, they are the only tablets that have worked. Today I’ve asked the doctor to prescribe more (another doctor) and they have refused saying they are only supposed to be taken for 5 days?

Is this correct? I’m sure I’ve heard of other women taking them for months…

Has anyone taken them longer than 5 days and their babies have been fine?

I think (but I'm not a doctor this is just something I discussed with GP) that taking for pregnancy sickness is 'off label' for ondastron and GPs can I my prescribed 5 days at a time and I guess may be reluctant to have to prescribe regularly. Whereas hospital consultants who specialise can prescribe longer doses. I think it has some potential side effects on first trimester but is regularly taken.

Not correct at all!

My GP put it on a repeat for me, 60 tablets at a time.
I've been on it since 10w, now 31w, no issues at all

i thought so 😩 I can’t go back to how I was before, finally something works and I might not be able to get it again, cannot believe it.

GP's tend to avoid in pregnancy, especially first trimester as per BNF (British National Formulary) (Although I think some still prescribe it despite this)
I have added the link below...
Ondansetron | Drugs | BNF | NICE
Read the bit titled Important Safety Information.
I think pregnancy centers and consultants are more likely to prescribe but only having had the conversation to make the Mum aware of the information above.
Hope that helps - This may be why your GP wont give more....?

You will, take it up with the practise manager if you have to. They cannot deny you anti sickness medication. Worth having a chat with pregnancy sickness support too (they have a what'sapp number)
