Measuring 6-9 days early

TW: measuring early and potential loss

I'm really confused about this situation. I went for a reassurance scan at what was 6+5 according to my lmp but 6+2 according to ovulation.

At the ultrasound it measured 5+3 with a yolk sac but no fetal pole and no heartbeat so I was referred to EPU.

Went to EPU the next day and was told I'm measuring about five and a half weeks and to wait two weeks before a rescan BUT then I was taken into one of those horrific side rooms and given a leaflet about miscarriage and problems in early pregnancy.

The midwife then told me and my husband not to get our hopes up and start preparing for what's to come as it is almost impossible for this to go well. She said the chance of seeing a good outcome at the next appointment is 1%, if that. She then started talking to me about what to expect in the next two weeks-talking about how many pads to fill is healthy etc!

I am just so confused because it is an early measurement of 7-9 days. Is it really that set in stone already or is it at all possible that this could go positively?

Is there anyone else who measured 7-9 days early and has a positive story?

Were you physically tracking ovulation or are your days based on an app or a guess from LMP?

If you are 100% on your dates then you do need to prepare yourself that this may not be good news I'm afraid.

If not, then you may have ovulated late and it could go either way. I have long, irregular cycles and I wasn't tracking - at my first scan I would have been 8+2 from LMP but I only measured 6+1 so I was 15 days behind! I'm now 36 weeks pregnant!

Good luck.

Had I not been tracking this month I could have easily been 7-9 days behind (also long cycles and sometimes even longer when I ovulate much later than anticipated), my last pregnancy the doctor thought I was measuring this behind also because of this exact reason.
There is still so much growth that happens at these early stages.
However, only time will tell. Good luck to you op

I’ve heard stories of how women were 100% sure on their ovulation dates but first ultrasound showed 1+ weeks behind and they went on to have a normal pregnancy even though that would mean they conceived when they already tested positive so it makes no sense but apparently it happens. This can go both ways do try not to worry too much, you can’t change the outcome unfortunately.

I was 1000% sure in my dates as my form of contraception for a while was tracking ovulation dates. On my first scan however, I was 6 weeks with cramping. The scan put me at 5 weeks, with a little yolk but no heartbeat. The relief I felt at my 12 week scan was amazing.

I was sure on dates.
Bleed at 4+ weeks HCG normal. Scanned me when HCG should have been over 1500.
Gestational sac and yolk sac present.
Rescanned 2wks later, measuring 6-7weeks but heartbeat present.
Rescanned another 2wks later because of slow growth and measured exactly 9+5, which is what my dates are!

good luck OP

Same here. Dating scans are crap. Babies dot grow along a linear line. I was measuring too early (and no heartbeat), he's 3.5yo now. I had a 9 day difference in the dates I was given at 3 scans (all NHS). Still went into labour on the due date I'd calculated based on LMP (I was tracking ovulation too and had a very regular cycle).

I was physically tracking ovulation and the last day we dtd was January 28th.

Would you mind explaining the dating to me? I genuinely feel I have over googled to the point that I just don't get it at all. Is there any chance that if conception happened Jan 28th/29th I could be measuring 5+3 in Feb 27th?

Thanks for the blunt honesty, I appreciate it.

This fills me with so much hope, were you sure if ovulation and conception dates too?

Oh man, I can't tell you how much I want a similar story! Thank you for sharing and congratulations x

@PurBal at my ultrasound, the lady told me not to pay too much mind to it as this early, the scan can be about 7 days off and it's not that accurate. She said to wait till my 12 week scan for a more accurate due date. That due date was only 4 days after what I had thought, instead of the 7 days they originally thought. Not a huge difference, but it made more sense as it is very normal for your ovulation dates to be a few days late/early.

@Weeniebeenie a bit of TMI but I 1000% know the day that it happened as my partner had a bit of a slip up which he'd never done before, straight after I had told him "well, now you've gotten me pregnant" 😂 I ovulated a few days after that. It was definitely a woopsie moment on his part, I guess years of work there was bound to be some slack on his part 🤣
